As far as this swap goes, I'm pretty confused about computers for OBD-1 and so forth. At this point, I am under the assumption that because I am automatic I am OBD-2. However I could be wrong. This is just one thing I know nothing about. So my list thus far includes:
transmission, pedals, console, tach, tach adapter, linkage, clutch / flywheel.... pcm. now what year pcm do i need to pick up and does the year of the transmission make any difference.
and for mounts... are mounts different / the same / difficult to make... any help would be awesome. thanks so much.

no one has any advice?

according to your registry, you have a 2.2 auto 95.
It does not have an electronic trans and is not OBD2
your parts list should be:
"transmission, pedals and Master cylinder, shifter and boot, tach, tach adapter (or just a Z cluster....but Tach is not a necessity), shifter linkages, clutch / flywheel.... And the MEMCAL (chip) from a manual 95"
PCM is the same for both Man and Auto in 95.
Any 2.2 trans should work... Isuzu is easiest.
Linkages and mounts must amtch the trans you get.
Auto and Manual mounts are different.

what's the memcal chip?
as for the mounts, you have to cut the mounts out of the donor car and weld them onto your body.
The MEMCAL is GM's proper name for the "chip".

Ohhhh, but isn't it just as easy to swap the computers?
yea can't i just swap the pcm from a manual 95?
how about mounts? how much of a bitch is that to do honestly?

yes you can just swap computers, but the memcal chip is only $35 apparently NEW from GM and it plugs into your existing computer.
as for the mounts, if you can cut and weld sheet metal you should be fine.
Was $35. Not sure if it still is.
the mounts will bolt in
no cutting or welding needed
But you will need to have the mounts from the manual, not the auto.
The mounts have to match the trans, not the body.
Both PCMs (auto/man) are the same, but 95 only has 2 plugs.
the only difference is the chip.
If you go to a junkyard and ask for a manual one, you are likely to get an auto.
this is because they are both the same and standard service practice is to change the chip form the old one to the new one when replacing them.

I gotta call BS on the mounts cuz I've looked at both the auto and the manual mountings and they are WAY different.
I guess I am missing what you guys are thinking.
The mounts are the brackets that bolt on between the engine and the trans.
The manual trans bolt locations and spacing is different than the Auto ones.
The mounting locations for both types are on all J bodies, no matter which trans they come with
The only difference is the actual mounts. Manual mounts won't bolt to an auto ans vicesa versa.
But when the correct J-body mounts are bolted to the trans they are made for, then they will simply bolt to the body. no cutting or welding whatsoever.
GM does not make different bodies because of trans option.

Yeah, you want to be boosted soon?
So why swap to a weaker tranny??
The TH125C can handle so much more power than any other GM FWD manual, other than the 2nd gen one that I have no clue about, but still.
The TH125C has quite a few options if you do some research and fine the RedLine clutches, a nice stall converter, and a different final drive.
Event did it, and he loves his
Plus the LSD from EP is nice from what I hear, and will know soon as mine comes in this week.
Just my thoughts :shrugs:
I would keep the 3t40and build it like Lowfire said. Its a already a strong tranny and you get slightly better results with autos using nitrous or boost.
Rice rocket? Since when does just being loud make you qualify as a rocket?
How much power does a Chevy sticker add?
i prefer manuals, like the gearing better, and i've got 153k on this transmission. it's already slipping. it's not going to hold up forever. plus i do work myself, i don't want to pay a tranny shop to do what Event had done to his. I admire the work and all... but it's still a 3 speed automatic.

Maybe I'm wrong... I got my info from this little article someone had posted about swapping to a Z24 motor... is that maybe where the difference is? *shrug* now I'm confused. My brother and I both look at two cars (one auto one manual) and they look like complete different sets of body mounting points. Could someone take pics so we can clarify this once and for all.
there should be a tranny swap sticky.

the transmission will bolt up to the engine with no problem and yes you have to weld on new mounts for the manual it is completely different i just got done doing this to my 96 with a 2.2. i am not sure about the 2.4
that's what I thought... looks like I'll be taking the sawsall to the wrecker next weekend
is the bell housing for the ld9 the same as the LN2? i'm building an ld9 for boost and am curious if the manuals will bolt up just the same with both motors?
