Isuzu Transmission Info

Found a website with some good info on the Isuzu tranny. Not sure how accurate it is, but worth a read if you have the Isuzu transmission:

http://www.isuzuperformance.com/isupage/tech/myths.html#gmtrans

Go to heading titled:

“Isuzu Transmissions Suck Because I Keep Blowing Up Gears In My Cavalier/Sunbird And All The Fiero Guys Claim The Muncie's Are Better”

It states that the reason why the Isuzu tranny may suffer the bad reputation of not being the most reliable tranny out there, is due to the fact that GM altered the metal tempering specifications on both the gear clusters as well as the differential planetary gears, making them weaker than the original gearing. It goes on to state that the isuzu tranny may be a better tranny than the newer getrag.

The website could be biased, but worth a read.

What would be interesting is seeing what kind of rebuild kits are out there. If you have to rebuild, perhaps altering the gear cluster, you can get quicker 0 to 60 times, as discussed in previous posts, or alter the 5th gear to give you better HWY mileage and higher cruising speeds/lower RPM. Depends on the individuals cost/benefit.

Bill's site has always had good information like that. Not new information, but still good none the less.
