Thursday, March 03, 2005 3:04 PM
will the tranny from a ecotec powered Z24(F-23) bolt up to a 1998 2.4l?

I also need a list of interchangeable trannies for the 2.4l.

Any help would be great!!

THanks.

no it wont

the eco and 2.4 have different belhousings

you have to use a trans that was made for the 2.4 , and in some cases the older 2.3 quad 4 trans will work also

the newer getrag is different

the older getrag/muncie i think you have to use 1 stock Jmount and 1 stock mount from the car the trans came from , do a search there is a post about the early trans swap some where

It will if you use the old style flywheel. The clutches are different because the flywheel is different. One is flat, the other is stepped.

Whichever tranny you decide to use, you MUST use the clutch and flywheel designed for that tranny.

so I found a tranny out of a 2001 2.4l.... getrag naturaly.

Now I know the chassis mounts are the same and so are the mount bushings... now what I wanna know is... are the tranny mounts that are bolted on the tranny case the same as the mounts on the '97 Izuzu or should I tell my wrecker that I want those mounts too?

thx
Rob

the mounts from the isuzu will not line up on the Getrag. Completely different case. You will need the mounts from the Getrag. There is also a reverse lockout on the getrag that you will have to rig up...or take the shifter and cables from the getrag as well. Honestly, I dont think the Getrag is worth it because the synchros are absolute crap in the getrag. But go for it. It is a lot of work.

Its a good swap, but u need a lot of the newer style parts. In fact there is anouther post in the transmission area about it right now. Its not that much work at all, just finished my swap up today. It took me 2 days.

tranny, getrag, used

axles, getrag, used

shifter, getrag, used

shift cables and all other parts of the assembly, getrag, used

bracket on the tranny that holds the shifter cables, from a 2.4 00-02 getrag
tranny, used

CLIPS THAT HOLD THE SHIFTER CABLES DOWN to the
bracket on the tranny, from getrag, used

flywheel from a 2.4 00-02 getrag tranny, used

flywheel bolts, from a 2.4 00-02 getrag tranny, used

pressure plate, getrag, used or new, (i will prob go new)

pressure plate bolts, from a 2.4 00-02 getrag tranny, used

clutch disk, for a getrag, used or new (i will prob go new)

throw out bearing, for a getrag, used or new (might come with my new clutch, so maybe go new)

clutch master cylinder and lines/hoses, getrag, used

Rear tranny mount bracket, getrag, GM, new

tranny mounts, getrag, prob used

*MAKE SURE THEY GIVE YOU ALL THE BOLTS FROM THE BELL HOUSING AND THE PRESSURE PLATE TO FLYWHEEL, AND GIVE YOU THE CLIPS THAT HOLD THE SHIFTER CABLES DOWN, AND THE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER TOGETHER WITH THE THROW OUT BEARING.
If you don't have these clips when you push the clutch pedal it WILL pop out of the bearing and you won't have pedal.

Speed sensors are different and you get a new one on the tranny, just tell them to leave the pig tails for the revers tail lights and VSS pig tail in there and just splice them in.

what do you mean by "SHAVING the braket a little to clear the Getrag,

Shaving I mean, just cutting a little off the edge.

If you take the driver wheel off and looking at the bracket, you need to
shave on the bottom right and the hole needs to go about 4 inches to the
left.

so a hole for the front has to be drilled 4 inchs left (to the front of the car) then the getrag mount bolts up to that right, and cut back a bit so the getrag will clear it

Yes when you DO drill a new hole the tranny mounts WILL just bolt right on,
but you still have to WELD a new REAR one.

There u go thats everything u need to do. As i said, i just finished the swap up today, and i have lots of extra parts that u need to do this swap. shift cables (used) shifter assembly (used) throw out bearing (new) If u have any questions or are interested in any of the part that i have fell free to get in touch with me. Good luck on the swap, u will be happy.
