Most of the top of my engine has nothing but oil on it. How do I go about fixing this?

Sounds to me like you will need to replace the valve cover gasket on your car. It's not very hard to do, but I would recommend you pick up a Haynes or Chiltons manual for your car. They have step by step instructions on how to do things like this and it usually has helped me out a lot in the past.

Now if you meant, how do you clean off the mess of oil, get a good engine degreaser and follow the instructions on the can.
