oil cooler question/ idea

im in the process of buying cavy. i sold my tsi and now im going to back to cavys. i wanted to bulid a 2.4l for boost and run a evo 16g since im so used to mit turbos and just about everything about them. my crazy idea was to run a oil cooler to help cool the oil running out of the turbo, cause i know from exprience that the oil gets really hot. i was thinking about putting the cooler on there to help cool it down, now for my question. if i was to put a cooler on it would it be to much restriction on the flow of the oil. the last thing i want is the oil to be restricted and backed up in the housing of the turbo, that would be really bad. another question i have is what comp. pistons should i get , when i rebulid the motor, and i want to upgrade the cams and put taller cams in. with quiet abit more lift on the exhuast side and more lift on the intake side as well. i think thats all the questions, for now. i need all the help i can get on this so when i finally get the car, that i know what to get. oh and the car that ill be looking into getting well be a z 24, if that helps any. i can use all the help i can get here, so let me know what you guys think about it, and really about the oil cooler part cause i thought that i would be a great idea. alright thanks for all the help that i can get here, thanks.

What he said. It's not a crazy idea and more people should try cooling devices but they don't...kind of sad. Spending the extra money for the little stuff can save headaches down the road.

did you guys even read what he is asking?^^

I wouldnt do it like that, maybe before the turbo....but then you might have problems at start-up.....

I wouldn't do an oil cooler before the turbo. Not the best idea. As far as compression for aftermarket pistons goes... my recommendation would be 9:1 or 9.5:1. I think with a fully built motor, with secret cams (they will work good for boost), you would be better off with an 18g. But that's just me.

thanks for the help so far guys. if i was to put a cooler on would it restrict the flow any thats my main concern with this cause thats the last thing i need is oil backed up in the housing of the turbo. lets just say i did put the cooler before the turbo, what if i put in a small pump of some kind to push the oil through the cooler or would that just be to much going on. im just trying to find ways to keep the turbo cooler then normal. as for a 18g i think that might be alittle much for me, i know that the evo 16g is good for around 400 hp which is plenty for me, i dont want to run no more the 16- 18 psi on it. i ran 16 psi on my awd tsi and ran a 13.5 with it with stock everything. since im going to buliding a motor just for boost i thought that 16-18psi would be enough to put me well under 13.5 that i ran with my tsi. i want to get the car into the low 12's without using nitrous. tell what you guys think about using a external pump to pump the oil through a cooler or if thats just more restriction on the system, thanks for the comments so far keep them coming.
