"roots-type" supercharger

Hi, i have a question here. I've been researching superchargers for my 97 sunfire GT, when i came across these factory GM "roots type" superchargers. the only problem they say their only made for the 2000 - 2002 2.4L engines. now to me they look exactly the same as the 2.4L in my 1997. so what im wondering is if this would fit and work normally in my 1997.

You obviosly didn't search huh? You need the smaller starter from the newer 2.4's to make it fit, then you need the fuel system and ecu of the newer 2.4's to make it run (or another method of controlling fuel and spark for a custom tune). You'll also need to get rid of the egr, that should be close to it.

ya .... from what I've seen.... the 99 and under PCM canNOT be reflashed........

you can still get the kit but you need to do some research on the conversion of many things listed above..... if you don't want to do all the computer stuff....

get AFPR, FMU... and your good to go !!!

you might want some coolmist water injection .... those charger heat soak like a mother @!#$.....

thanks everyone, yea i searched but i figured id ask just too get other peoples opinions. I haven't really done alot to my car.... but this is somthing id be really interested in doing. as far as the ECU goes will the newer ones just plug in and work or will i need to modify some things? im not too great at the computer stuff, im used to the old engines where its straight foreward.

if you go with the 2000+, you will require the complete wring harness, tank, BCM, PCM and ECM aswell as the dash guages. it's do-able. someone did it to my 99 so i can run a S/C and have it flashed for it.

intead of using the computer you can use the spark plugs from the SC kit and an alternate fuel management solution, afpr.
