Couple of questions about the 2bar map sensor
Monday, January 16, 2006 2:59 PM
Ill be turboed soo and had the following questions.

1. Is it NECESSARY to run this 2bar with a fully built engine and turbo kit? Or will the stock one be fine?

2. If I do need the 2 bar, will it work with my 99 non egr wiring harness?

3. When is the 2bar necessary to use?

Please help with my confusion! Thanks.

You can only use the 2 bar on 2000+ 2.4's with the GM S/C reflash.

The 2 bar MAP will ONLY work if you have the GMSC reflash or another reflash that allows the ecu to interpret the 2bar vs. the stock 1bar signal. Whether you need it or not all depends on how you plan on tuning the car, but if you're not flashing the ecu, you can't use the 2bar MAP.

Thanks guys, in a nutshell you've pretty much answered what I needed to know. Im not getting the reflash so I guess I can't use it.

So ill be fine with the standard 1bar right?

You don't have a choice, you'll need to be just fine with it

Keep in mind your regular sensor is only meant to see vacuum, it will go nuts if the sensor sees boost. Alot of people put a check valve of some sort in the vacuum line.

It won't go nuts, some people get away with it, some don't. Mine hasn't complained yet.

Not true. The Map sensor will reach the 5v maximum at 0psi. It can't go crazy, it has already reach it's maximum. The reading will not go higher even if you put 100psi on the map sensor.
