Just got my GM charger in the mail the other day and I'm looking at building or buying a CAI system for it. I've looked over the boards and it seems everyone is just running short ram intakes for their chargers. Anyone on here using a true CAI system and if so, what brand or did you have to build it yourselves.
Thanks for the input.
i used 3" intercooler piping off ebay , filter is inside the bumper close to the headlight
pretty much you gotta make your own
Pretty much what he said. I also relocated my battery to the trunk...

^^^^^^ i hate seeing picks of your car
i gotta spend hours cleaning my key board , LOL
that is similar to how my intake will be when i redo it , i gotta move my battery first
John, thats freaggin hot as hell!
...
I just used Black's AEM intake and cut it to fit and reused the rubber elbow. Worked out better then I had hoped.

1- 180 degree 2 1/2" U bend from Summit. Rubber elbow from aftermarket intake. Cut in the middle and use a plumbing connector from Home Depot. Then cut the legs to length and install. I also powdercoated mine.
i have mine going straight down from the throttle body.
I recently picked up some 3inch aluminum piping(10$ exploited racing), and two 3 inch couples off e bay (23$)and a 35$ 3 inch k&n cone filter from summitracing.com. the couplers are One 90 degree one and a 45 degree one, as i want the intake to go straight down and over slightly towards the driver side. i want bigger then 2.75inchs and a set up that looks prettier.
I currently have my AEM intake hacked up intake the striaght down set up.and i got some holes cut in the plastic thing that hangs down from the car so the filter can get some more air. The filter rests on that bar that goes from under the radiator to the subframe. i also have it wrapped in that DEI intake wrap stuff.
here is mine... i personaly noticed a small increase when i put it on... and WOW could i ever hear the supercharger whine (i got the video if you want, pm me for it).. Also i have never had a problem where the filter sits.. and this summer we also had HUGE flooding and such (i live in Calgary) and i never had one problem.. and even in the snow (when we actually had it for the 2 days this year) it made a nice difference with the cold air
Also if you dont want it to stick down that far you just leave more of the 90 degree bend on the pipe, i just have it this way because i just had that tube laying around
Parts i bought/use:
- 3" aluminum tube (intercooler tubing)
- 3" silicon 90 degree elbow (intercooler hose from Vibrant)
- K&N cone filter
and then just use your clamps from your stock intake stuff and your done

All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
mine looks exactly like that^^^ lol.....works good

does a 3 inch intake elbow fit on the throttle body? I wonder. If not i have a idea on making it work by using a 1/4 inch peice of my AEM intake and putting it on the t/b then clamping on the 3inch elbow over it. - what ever works
Thanks for the info guys.
Josh F - where did you plug your IAT into?? I was thinking about doing the same as I have some 3 inch piping around the house right now.
John317 - man I love your sunfire ... best fire next to John Piparo's
the iat goes into the s/c itself
so no need for hole in intake

no the throttle body is 2.5" ... but the GM supercharger kits have a nother tube that i think has a hose that goes down to the crank case? cant remember but it is 3" which is why the 3" tube i have fits

97Cavier24 has it right... your IAT should be in your supercharger... us GM s/c'er boys are lucky all we need is tubing and a filter

the throttle body is not 2 1/2"
it is 2 3/4"
Make your own. Gonna eventually remake mine.
Still think you're gonna have a faster car than me Cliffy boy?

When I had my GM S\C Z I tried every setup and the one the showed an 6whp increse of the rest was when I relocated my battery to the trunk and ran 3" piping down into the fender well. The worst was Jake's setup. I think cause the engine heated up the piping.
Modds:
GM Stage 2 with SFPHQ 2.8 pulley
Injen Intake
GM Dual Pass Aftercooler w15psi Surge Tank
GMPP Exhaust Manifold
CTi 3" Downpipe and Cat
Custom 3" Cat Back with Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler
ZZ Engine Mount
ZZ Front Trans Mount
B&M Shifter
NGK BKR7E Plugs
DC Strut Tower Brace
Soon to be installed:
2.6 pulley, Siemens 60lbs Injectors, NGK 2 Step Colder Plugs
Tune Time Custom Dyno Tune
my set up is the same as the others.
I am still tossing around the idea of running the stock S tube and using the 3inch piping/ couplers to go into the fenderwell. As the stock rubber tube wont soak up heat as much as the aluminum stuff.
hmmm. ideas ideas.
Bill - We will just have to wait and see. I don't think i'll pass you this summer but next year, you'll be having some great views of my ass end.
I think I'm going to try a new route and create a straight pipe intake running right out from the blower one small 45 degree bend, and right into the fender wall in front of the driver front well - wonder how much that would give me? Plus I have the Big Mouth front end, so lots of fresh air goes in there.
i am cutting my old vibrant intake to fit the original intake cost me 40 bucks on ebay. and now nothing but2 min of labor to re use
Sorry...

Runnin the least amount of bends with the small M45 is the best way to go, but the short ram in front of the fan cooked the piping. Still tryin to figure out why GM used an non intercooled M45 on the 2.4L, but used an intercooled M62 on a 2.0L?

Because they new it would make it faster then a Cobalt... and they would never do that since it would be cheaper for some one to do, and probably wouldnt sell as many cobalts.... there is always money involved in why they do @!#$ like that....
Although with the 2.6" pulley an what not on my car i easly took a SS cobalt.... granted i was spraying alcohol at the time and hitting 10psi

only thing i hate about the M45 is that it maxes boost out to like 12psi i think it is, someone correct me if im wrong. but ive been reading and i think someone whos hitting 9-10 psi should be running around 13.9-14.1 or something correct? (no nitrous of course)
I have hit 10-11psi on boost spikes with the 2.6" pulley and alcohol set up... i honistly thing you cant go past 9psi of solid boost... and 11psi with spikes at 5000rpm.... Eaton blowers are knowen to spike when spun up past 14,000 RPM i think it is... so i really dont see a need in getting the 2.5" or even 2.4" pulley you wont see any more power i can tell you that much from experience...
Hence why i am putting the turbo on so i will get my 10+psi of boost

well fastest times with the gm s/c are 13.1 on a 70 shot and bolt on's.
and 13.2 no nitrous ,2.5 pulley, ported head / ported s/c, cams and all the bolt on's,water injection.
back on topic.
