paco's latest dyno & probs
Saturday, January 07, 2006 11:33 AM
Before:

Things changed since last time:
-spec 3 clutch
-spec flywheel
-deleted ac
-plugs (ngk lztr5a-13) .035gap
-smaller injectors (srt-4 ~55lbs)

Problems:
-missfires
-clutch

Analysis:
The car is starting to missfire as boost builds & gets higher into the rpm range and the clutch is able to hold the power. The car actually made about 315hp at 17psi at about 4500rpm, but quickly started to missfire, and dropped power like you see it did at 305hp at 14psi. Both times the car showed signs of the horsepower continuing to increase until the missfires. The reason why the 315hp is not shown is because after the missfiring we swapped out the ngks for the stockers (which actually performed just as good (with 31000 miles), if not better, than the ngks with about 500miles on them).
The lower hp number run was done at 9psi.
Also, the clutch is acting up really bad causeing massive vibrations and rattling. So out comes the tranny again, to try and figure it out.

Things to fix:
-oil leak around the pan (from the synthetic becoming really thin due to extra heat)
-clutch/flywheel
-missfiring

So now I'm asking for the Org's help! I need a help (suggestions) on how to fix the missfiring. Any ideas???
One thing I was looking at, but know it's not going to solve my problems are the spark plug coil upgrade from rksport (karo do you carry them???). Thanks guys/girls (this project is starting to become frustrating again ).

I have the same problem sometimes... as boost builds in 3rd gear it begins to misfire and I get the stupid blinking CEL light. That was at 14psi on my LD9.

^^^ What he said. Working on your ignition will take care of that no problem. Also, are the SRT4 injectors a direct fit? I've been interested in playing with those for a while.

What are you running for fuel management? sounds exactly like what happens when you use a GM s/c reflash and hit 14.7lbs boost, dies CEL flashes car stumbles for 15 seconds then runs fine...

Is that what is happening?

the blinking CEL doesn't always mean misfiring...

it could mean 1 of 3 things

1 - misfiring yes
2 - the stock ignition is drawing to much current through the system for ignition
3 - I cannot remember but I think it has to do with the coilpacks being over worked...

this also goes for the P0300 code...

My roomate is going to be a GM tech and his etacher had taught the class all about gm coding (duh) and this was one of the questions my roomate brought up because of my car, this the reason I upgraded all of my crap..

yah on my car I think I just set an error code cause I hit the 5v max on the 2.0 bar map,

thanks, engine is completely stock.
I think I might have to look into the msd stuff. what kind of problems where you having with your ignition??

they are far from it. it requires spacers (which i have) and a wire harness change (which i am capable of getting).

constant blinking CEL's constant p0300 code and just overall piss poor gas mileage and fuel burning....

once the msd was in I noticed a decent gain in mpg and a definite gain in power and my car ran better, less black smoke from unburnt fuel... it also allowed me to protect myself with a better rev limiter... mine is set at 6100 rpms...

wow 17 psi and your using an fmu for fuel management. arent u worried about your a/f? what kind of fuel pressure are u running at WOT? nice numbers though.. its nice to see stock ecotecs with that kind of power

Very impressive, hopefully you get it dialed in!

a/f was around 10.8, there was room left to adjust the fmu to run leaner (11.5 or so), but we weren't concerned with that at the moment. trying to fix the misfiring is the next step, i wont be driving the car for a while (that's what the goat is for). I don't have an answer for the fuel pressure a wot, wasn't monitoring it, again the misfire to precedences.

if you decide to go with the msd let me know and I can help you out. IMO I really would if I were you. I am running a lot less whp then you and di it just for safety reasons and got a lot more then I asked for with more power and better mph

I just saw that your a/f was at 10.8 that could also be why youre misfiring. turn your fuel down a bit too...

yeah 10.8 seems crazy rich

you by chance wouldnt have an AF graph it would be interesting to see how steady it stayed

so much for the stock eco rods supposedly giving out at 283 hp!

2.2 L Ecotec, P&P Head, Stage 3 Comp Cams, Supertech 76 lb Spring kit, Supertech Oversized Valves, Wiseco 8.9:1 CR Pistons, Eagle H-Beam Rods, Home-Built Turbo Kit T3/T4 57 Trim Intercooled, 78 lb/hr Racetronix Hi-Z injectors, Aeromotive FPR, Racetronix f body fuel pump,MEGASQUIRT MS3 + MS3X Finally street tuned on 21 lbs! Now if only I could get it to hook....

thats what a bunch of us had been saying since then... they blew the motor on nitrous not turbo.

I know that almost every nitrous injected ecotec has blown. there are a few that havent.

but hypsy, Dj and paco are all running 300 whp or more, maybe a few less and thats more then just a fluke IMO

even though the a/f is "crazy rich", i ran "crazier rich" than that before with the mopar stage 3 injectors (10.0 across the whole rpm range and possibly lower since their meter wont read below 10s) with no misfires. no i do not have any graph to compare, but the a/f stayed pretty constant again. im not worried about the a/f because of the last senario.

yea, 283hp pish posh . i'm going to keep cranking the boost and hp till i lose the engine. considered me a test subject. although, i don't think it will take to much more and that it's living on borrowed time.
