Those with T3 Super 60's...
Saturday, December 31, 2005 4:15 PM
Alright guys. Its back to the drawing board for me. I think I am wanting to sell my Garrett t3/t4 70 trim turbo for a Garrett T3 Super 60. I was wondering if those of you running this turbo could post your quater mile times and possibly an elevation or atleast a location. Thanks in advance!

a t3 super60 will provide enough cfm to destroy anything youll build stock block.

its a good street turbo for you jbody guys, petes spooled around 3400 and pulled great to redline whereas on a honda, this turbo is too small.

volumetric efficiency allows you guys to get away with this smaller, relatively cheap turbo

Im confused wouldnt we use a bigger turbo then a honda just because are motors are bigger? I thought honda could use smaller turbos then us because of the less displacement? Im not tryin to arguee jsut tryin to fig. stuff out hahaha

Thanx Charles

no, a honda demands a larger cfm turbo because the heads flow a ton more cfm than your motors. larger displacement yes, but, your head flows like poopie.

Someone on this site with a stock 2.4 with a 50 trim T3 with a .48 a/r turbine ran a 12.9 or street tires. It was done in Michigan, no clue what the elevation is. A Super 60 with a .63 a/r turbine is good for another 50whp over that 50 trim........

Elevation is about 800ft above sea level where that run took place.

My T3 Super 60 spools around 2300 RPM, full boost pretty much instantly. No quarter times yet, but I will get some this summer.

The T3 Super 60 is THE perfect turbo for the stock block J-car.

What if you have a built block with the Super 60? Is it still the way to go?

Im getting ready to turbo my car,and im confused on what turbo i should get.I have 2.4 with pretty much all the boltons, and a ported and polished head.Would the super 60 be a good choice for me?If not, which one would you recommend? Also, where are you guys buying your turbos from?I dont want to buy from ebay. Are you buying rebuilt or brand new?

Your cylinder head is more torwards how fast you'll be spooling on X turbo....your bottom end is more about "how much power I can handle".

stock block & head => T3 super60 (or even a regular 60 trim)
built block and head => T04E 50 trim (what the man right up there ^ purchased)
A 57 or 60 trim T04E compressor would be a waste on our cars becaue they can't flow nearly that amount of air on anything close to the stock rev limiters. The 50 trim is more efficient at the required levels, and more efficient at higher pressures than any other T04E compressor.
For a mildly built engine just wanting a little more kick than the super60 can provide, the 40 trim T04E is also a nice choice.

Because I was planning on running 7lbs out of the Garrett T3/T4 70 Trim turbo I have now. But if I were to sell that and get a T3 Super 60 I would run 10lbs. I am just basically trying to get a reliable 13 to low 14 second car here in Colorado. The drag strip I race at the elevation is 4,695. So do you guys still think the t3 super 60 would be the better way to go? I still have a stock block and it will most likely stay that way for atleast 5+ years....Thanks in advance!

Well I think I am going to sell my turbo for now and then order the super 60 and see how that fits in, because with my current manifold and turbo it is going to be insane to build a down pipe for it. So I will start with that I guess then. I decided today to put the car back together for the time being since I need it for school but I should be boosted now by march hopefully!

didnt some of the old turbo fords like the mustang and thunderbirds with the turbo 4 bangers come with either a t3 super 60 or a IHI turbo? If so I'll be off to the junk yard to get one and rebuild that.

The turbo coupes had a T3, but it was a wierd flange design and wasn't a super 60. They were small, even for those engines and would barely work on ours.

thanks I know about that site I was just looking for something a lil cheaper cause once i rebuild I would probably go with a bigger turbo.... But from what i could get out of the turbo map it seems like there decent up to about 15psi on a 2.4..... but thats past the limits of the gm 2 bar map sensor so its hard to figure out.

well if you want problems, buy XS Power or SS Autochrome turbos. Turbos are not cheap.
