my mechanic needs to know some basics about the 2200 ohv i couldnt answer well cause i dont know..lol well what is the highest achievable hp for this motor on stock internals? and i personally was wondering is the 3t40 capable of handling 350 hp? basically i have a dude building me a turbo right now based off a t3 and manifold i told him i wanna go with a motor rebuild and he suggested i save my money and run on stock internals he said that my motor should handle up to 300 hp before i need any type of serious motor rebuilding. he's used to hondas i dont know if their a diffrent beast or what.
stock internals? no way. the 2200 isn't good for more than 250 safely on stock bottom end. the block is durable, but the rods are a weak link. as far as the transmission goes, no. you'd be better off swapping in a Getrag 5spd manual, having it cryotreated, and going with a good clutch and flywheel combo. if you wanted to run on stock internals, do your turbo setup, and run 8 psi on stock bottom end with a good tune, and fuel system treatments while you save up for the big build.

thanks again dude im just going to spend the cash now and have my internals and everything done as far as the tranny goes im kinda stuck with the 3 spd ill get a decent build up on that before anything though i dont think i can trust myself running just 8 psi so i better go for the gold now..lol..

if you want to push that kind of power through the 3t40, then you better have your transmission built like Event did.

Basically what he said. Honestly, even if you did turbo your 2200 3-Speed, you still won't be "fast" because of your transmission. Right now, you're a 17 second-18 second car. If you turbo it, you'll be bringing it down to around a 15 second car. Your transmission is your weak point, not only with normal automatic drivetrain loss but gearing is HORRIBLY long. I guess the extra load is good for boosted autos but still gearing is an issue.
I would either swap out the transmission or build up the transmission...if you don't...that will be your end result.

adding on to what adam said, yes, you really should invest in either a 5spd, that is cryotreated, or building the 3spd with a different stall, valve body, and clutches. the gear ratios on the 3t40 SUCK

i was going to have a build up done threw chesapeake trans in md i spoke to a guy and what he said was red alto clutch, kevlar bands, 26-2800 stall, shift kit ,lsd, and gears as high as 3.33 or something along those lines not sure the exact number but higher then the average build of 3.08 with that said would that consist of a decent build im trying to break into the low 14's or possiably 13's i can get the trans done for $1600 unless i can do a swap for that im kinda stuck : (
you'll be a 13 second car no doubt with about 15 psi... but not on stock bottom end

well I daily driven have 230whp in my 2200.... @ 9.5psi on stock internals.... with A LOT of extra bolt ons to the motor........
the 2200 as they were saying has a durable block and crank .... however it IS a pushrod motor..... so that IS the weakest link ...... and will be the first thing to give out on you ...... keep in mind you can build a 300hp 2200 with only minor upgrades in the engine bay ... but a GREAT tune is a must
