p&p head and s-afc, see any gains?
Monday, December 19, 2005 8:31 AM
hey im putting about to rebuild my interals with 9:1 wiseco pistons and eagle h-beam rods and i was wondering would i notice any differance if i got a port and polished head and the apexi s-afc II? i would go with megasquirt for tuning but im not going to go with that yet unless i highly need it. basically would i see any gains on the dyno from a port and polished head and the s-afc II on my gm supercharger which im seeing 6psi on stock pulley. thanks guys.

Well I see you're supercharged so a P & P head of course will do you some good. Anything to open up for more flow of compressed air is a good thing.

Now my thing is the SAFC-II...not sure how it would really benefit you for tuning. An SAFC-II tunes according to RPM and not boost. Now I'm not sure with supercharged vehicles if you reach the same amount of boost & a/f mixture at each RPM so I'm not fully sure how it would benefit you, if at all.

The megasuirt would be alright though if you really wanted to go the route of using a standalone.

you will see a big gain on your motor with a P&P head.

The safc2 is for minor tuning...

I would suggest using something that sees boost for fuel tuning

Careful with those JBP cams. I've inquired about them on many occasions, and the general consensus is that if you're blown/boosted the Stg2's arent for you. Stg 1 is better from the JBP selection. Too much overlap w/ the Stg 2's. Seems most of the veterans here would warn against the SAFC-II if ya wanna do anything major. 'Specially since you're blown, you wanna take it a step farther than the SAFC-II.

I highly recomend a ported head. During Black's build up we did secret cams and I ported the head for very nice gains. You should also look into stainless undercut valves. They hold up to the heat of boost much better and the undercut stems allow for more flow. Dont drop a grand on a head though, if you want a ported head drop me a Pm and I will hook you up with a good deal
