I'm just wondering what you turbo boys are doing for a Map Sensor?
I thought the easy thing to do would be to order the S/C map sensor, part# 12593906, but the few places I've checked come up with either a none existing part, or they tell me its just a plug for the map sensor, and not the actual sensor.
Can anybody help?
Thanks,
~Kilo
mine is starting to ahve problems, didn't use to, I need to get a check valve

I know myself is just running a stock one... didnt have any problems until recently..

Yes, I can't edit it myself...but the guy who is going to be tuning the car is going to be editing it for me.
And I thought I was looking for a 3 bar map sensor, not a 2 bar?
These is why I came to you guys...please help me straighten this out....
thanks,
~Kilo
How is he going to edit it exactly? Currently there is nothing on the market that will do that, whatever your tuner shop says. I know because I've been trying to write the software myself for quite some time, the only other company that's close is HP Tuners, and they haven't released thier software yet.
It probably is the 3 bar that your looking at, I didn't look up the part number.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
I'm not sure how he does it...he knows his S*** when it comes to GM motors though. Here's his website:

Well what's the difference between a 2 bar and a 3 bar...I'm not up on all this map sensor crap...

Shifted wrote:2 BAR max pressure is 14.7 PSI
3 BAR max pressure is 29.4 PSI
1 BAR (Stock) max pressure is 0 PSI
This are give/take a couple mm/hg.
Well that clears that up. Thanks!
Now, what Map Sensor are people running for the eco?
~Kilo
you can't upgrade your stock map sensor to a 3 bar sensor without reflashing the computer, which no one (correct me if im wrong) has done yet.
Get MegaSquirt
Shifted wrote:^ BINGO
Like I'm trying to say, everybody with boost is running a 1 bar (stock) sensor, because there is no available ECU upgrade to allow them to run a 2 or 3 bar sensor.
exactly cause if we could we wouldn't need to use any kind of piggy backs or stand alones.
We would be able to just flash the ecu for our needs and we all would be much happier
lol
Well we'll see what happens when I take it to this dude to get the car tuned. Last I heard he had everything he needed to hack into the ecu to adjust it the way he needs to. He used to use piggy back systems until he got this new equipment. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted...but I still need to find a map sensor....is there one that anyone can suggest?
This would be alot easier if GM would get off thier ass and come out with the s/c kit for the 2.2...then I'd have the map sensor, and I could take it to a dealer and have them just flash the ecu with the S/C programing....

my stock one holds up fine....even tho im using bigger injectors and a FMU to add fuel ..i havent gotten any CEL from it when the engine see's boost.
Ok...well at any rate...even if my dude can't hack the ecu, which I'm pretty sure he can, I do have a Greddy E-Manage Ready to be installed, I just didn't want to use it if I didn't have to. So since no one really came up with any real answer other than the fact that most people are just running the stock one, I went to another source and here's what I came up with:
How to connect a GM map sensor to your E-Manage Auth: Jesse Lee
If you need to add a pressure sensor to your E-Manage, but are too cheap to pay $120 for a Greddy pressure sensor and $35 for the harness, then read on…
1. GM sensor: 2 bar sensor for boost up to 14.5psi; 3 bar up to 29psi. Don’t use the 3 bar unless you really need it, otherwise you are giving up resolution. 3 bar sensor can be sourced from the 89 Firebird w/ the turbo 3.8; 2 bar sensor from a ’85 Buick Regal T-Type turbo 3.8 (or Sunbird turbos/ Grand Am turbos/ Diesels turbos/ Bonneville w/ supercharger etc). I got my 2 bar for around $25 new.
2. Map sensor connector: The 3 prong connector can be found in virtually all GM domestic fuel injected cars. You ‘ll probably have to cut a small slit down the side of one of the plastic legs. (It’ll be obvious once you look at your map sensor and the connector. No biggie). Got mine for free at the Pick-n-pull.
3. Connector that plugs into the E-Manage- this one is tough. I have not found the exact connector yet. I have found something that plugs in fine though: AMP/Tyco pn# 103688-2 (.100” 3-pos. receptacle). Molex has the same thing too. These plug in fine, but they don’t have the little snap-lock though. You’ll need the pins also.
4. Select GReddy Pressure sensor in the parameter setting window.
Maybe this will help someone else in the future. At any rate, if I can get the ECU edited, I'll be sure to let you guys know so that you'll stop thinking I'm crazy
Thanks,
~Kilo
^^ That's to only connect a map sesnor to the piggy back "emanage" it's not any kind of ecu modification at all, it's only for the piggy back
Elvis Collado wrote:^^ That's to only connect a map sesnor to the piggy back "emanage" it's not any kind of ecu modification at all, it's only for the piggy back
YES, but my question was never actually about the ecu or piggy back anything...that's just what the topic got turned into. My original question was:
I'm just wondering what you turbo boys are doing for a Map Sensor?
Now we have the answer to the map sensor question. I'm not worried about ecu modification...I have a Greddy E-Manage...I was just stating that I know someone that can edit the ECU because Shifted turned the subject that way
~Kilo
oh well that's totally different, but the way the question was asked it seemed like your asking about the stock map sensor.
if you had emanage why not just save up and get the pressure sensor instead of trying to half ass it?
Elvis Collado wrote:if you had emanage why not just save up and get the pressure sensor instead of trying to half ass it?
That's a good question....I'm new to this boost thing...what's going to be the advantage of the pressure sensor? And what's half ass about working with a 2 bar map sensor?
~Kilo
here's a link to where you can find both 2 and 3 bar GM map sensors:

when you get your ecu reprogrammed, let us all know how it goes and if it runs well. keep us posted....

Thanks for the link dude!
I'll be sure to let you know about the ecu ASAP.

snazzi, you still can't change to a 2 or 3 bar sensor with the emanage, because the signal still goes through the stock ecu, and would f--- things up. What you can do is find a way to supply the proper 5 v reference to the sensor, install it off of a manifold vacuum source (using a t-fitting in a vacuum line) and then have the emanage use it to see boost. But for that it would be easier to just get the Greddy pressure sensor.
Simply put, no one with a turbo ecotec uses a map sensor other than stock. Frankly, while i wish what you're "guy" was telling you is true, I'm hard pressed to believe that he's going to be able to go into the ecu and accomplish what shifted has spent months (maybe years?) trying to do.. Beyond that, if it were really that easy, HPTuners would have come out with their software by now. He might honestly believe he can do it but chances are once he gets in there he'll be in for a shock to find that its not the same deal as an LS1 ecu.
As of right now in my honest opinion, the BEST (meaning cheapest and most capable) fuel tuning option for the eco is to bypass the stock ecu entirely and run megasquirt. Until of course gm actually releases the s/c reflash. Since megasquirt overrides the ecu's control of fuel its the only one guaranteed not to have issues with the ecu pulling back fuel at wot to maintain 14.7:1. But thats my opinion take it for what its worth.

I use a check valve. You just need to get something aftermarket you can retard timing with. If your running low boost you dont have to retard timing.
