Well I got board today and decided to tap my 2200 Fuel rail.
I have been needing a fuel pressure gauge for some time know so I came up with this.
As you can see I drilled through the thick part of the arm to give me a little extra to tap and thread into. Just make sure you have a steady hand. lol
Here is what the finished product looks like.
The little gauge cost me $30.00 and local speed shop. its Autometer if anyone wanted to know.
Comment/Questions
Did you install it on car and pressure test it yet?

Yep, no leaks. I used Teflon tape, and tighten the living hell out of it. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get it fully around. But I did barley.
teflon tape is a no no on fuel systems, little pieces can get into the rails and lines... loc-tite is what I was told to use.
I heard that from many people and shop owners...

I was thinking about lock tite but I didn't have any, so I used the Tape. I didn't go over board with it tho, just one time around the threads. Cause I knew tightening that gauge into the rail would make a pretty good seal its self. Like I said I was barley able to get the gauge back around up right it was so tight.
ok well just becareful, keep an eye on it I guess. I wouldnt want one of my injectors clogged while running boost lol

Nobody that I can think of ever said you couldn't do it, however the question is how safe is it? Not something I would have done. There is not enough metal on that rail to tap a reliable safe tap. You cant get enough threads. It may work but for how long and under what pressures. Under boost our pressures can get to be as high as 90+ psi. I just don't know if I would trust that. Not by any means downgrading your results just saying be careful. Definently should have steered away from the teflon tape though. Go get yourself some liquid teflon for fuel. Good luck man

you mean the loctite thread sealant right? That stuff is ok for fuel systems, as its not a solid teflon tape (thought it has teflon properties)
looks really good and hope it holds up for ya
The one, the only, ME.
I know the rail is thin, thats why I tapped through the metal arm as well. I have about 1/4 of metal and threads. Thats thicker than most the Z24 rail I have seen. I am going to go get the paste and remove the tape tomorrow.

You mean 90psi with an fmu right?

yeah teflon tape = bad
isnt it an npt fitting anyways? so it seals pretty good on its own.
Ken, watch that area closely. The arm is only spot welded to the rail. It might do a great job of holding the gauge, but it doesn't seal the fuel in the rail. If you know someone who can braze or silver solder (this requires a torch), you could seal the support arm by brazing/ soldering around it. You might want to look into epoxy or some type of sealer, though I don't expect it to be truly effective.
Generally when making holes in thin sheet metal like the fuel rail, I try to drill a smaller hole than needed and use a punch to open the hole to the required size. The punch pushes metal down into the hole, and when you tighten your bolt or fitting the threads try to pull the metal back into the hole, adding strength and doing a much better job of holding.

See I just got an AFPR that goes after the stock one ....... you disconnect the stock vac line to the stock fpr... and up to the new one that is inline with the old one ............My AFPR has a guage on it ..... no tapping need for my 2.2
and it's adjustable from 20psi up to 80psi

I do HVAC so I was thinking about brazing around the arm too, but the way the arm is attached to the rail. Its all one solid piece. Those arms go on glowing Red hot and the Fuse them self to the rail, thus basically welding them self to it. If leaking becomes a problem I will most likey Braze it though for good measure. Hell I might just do it anyways before i get any problems.
it does look good though !!!

hey looks damn good to me too. whats the worst that could happen? ............. a massive explosion...haha jk keep up the good work
there ya go ken. Same thing as the guage I have from jegs . Good job and i used teflon on mine too. No problems ever and running two years now.

Thanks for all the input guys
Good work ken!
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

TEFLON will dissolve pretty quick with gasoline, I would get that off ASAP. The next step up is the yellow (PTFE?) tape meant for solvents - you should find it wherever you found teflon tape.
However with a fuel system, I would reccomend NOTHING at all on the threads. They should be designed to work without it - if they're NPT - they're tapered and yes NPT is designed for sealant but you should be fine without it.
I'd be leary of addin anything to the threads as most anything is dissolved by gas.
Good to know abut the gas and tape.^^^ yes the threads are NPT, so they do seal nice and tight.
