where is a good place to get a turbo kit for a 99 cavalier with a 2.2l motor.

I believe the jturners.com kit seems to be the best one going at the time. It seems reliable but I would recommend a johnnyracecar.com intercooler if you plan to go intercooled just to save some $$. But if thats not an issue you can just purchase the kit with everything you would need.

You can even go maximumboost.com as well they have some pretty good stuff as well.

I say before you buy any turbo kit, do alot of research on how parts work, how to maintaine a turbo kit and what parts you would need to run a proper turbo setup. Honestly, I would stay away from the J-tuners turbo setup...
I'll quote what I wrote in this thread:

NJHK wrote:After looking at that kit, I would say that it looks a tad bit lame. First of all, they are giving you 2" charge pipes and a 2" downpipe...a freakin 2" downpipe. Atleast they could supply you a 2 1/2" if anything, 2" is incredibley small and restrictive for a turbo setup.
Also, another lame thing is that it doesn't come with an intercooler. I mean, I don't care if you're running 3 psi, you're pushing hot exhaust air back into your motor, you need to cool it down. What's also a rip off is that they charge you $995 for an intercooler upgrade (or a stage 3 upgrade BS). I mean come on...you can find an intercooler for $160-200 and get someone to make charge pipes for you for cheap or buy the bends yourself.
Another thing I picked up is that there is NO type of fuel adjustment. There is no type of FMU, computer tuning program or anything. This is just setting up for you to blow up your motor. Even if there wasn't a tuning device, the least they could do is supply an FMU like most kits do. Newbie like youself don't know the importance yet of tuning.
Overall, the $2,495.00 you're spending on the initial kit is a waste. You could build a PROPER turbo setup for that amount. I'm building my own kit myself with everything proper, no cutting corners and my system will come to about $2,000-2300 spent.
I believe if you purchase this kit, you will waste your money and with the lack of knowledge, you will hurt your motor from lack of fuel tuning and lack of intercooling.
My suggestion to you is either find another kit out there that is more suitable or buy the parts yourself and have it put together (a custom setup). Also, ask LOTS of questions before buying anything, the last thing you want to do is buy parts that you aren't going to use or buy a kit that will not help you and will only hurt you in the future.
Before now, I never looked at the Jtuners kit for the 2200/2.2 OHV but now that I did, I highly suggest you DON'T BUY IT!
If you need any further help, you can contact me and I will help you as much as I can about how a turbo system works and what parts do what etc etc...basically help you go from being a Turbo Newbie to a Turbo Beginner. I'm still learning because there is alot to pick up about how boost works and how to maintain it but give me a couple months myself and I should be fully caught up.
Hope you take my advice. If you need help, contact me. Peace.

If you want to buy an actual turbo kit rather than piece one together yourself, I would highly suggest going with the Hahn Racecraft Stage 2 kit. It comes with everything you will need to run and tune for 8 psi. It runs $3400 for the kit.

Hahn makes a turbo kit for a 99 2.2L ? That would be new news to me.

Wait nevermind I got confused. Hahn is a very repuable kit and they get a lot of positive comments about them.
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
yup I would have bought the hahn kit ......... but I decided to piece my together myself.... took 9 months........ but I got everything brand new........ except my rebuilt turbo from garrett directly........... everything else was new....... intercooled.... at 11psi
so if the hahn kit is 3400usd...... then it is a bit expensive too......but it has everything I believe
my kit complete I got a 3" mandrel exhaust, boost gauge, adjustable fmu, afpr, 330cc ford injectors, 2.5" mandrel downpipe, oil feed/return, gaskets, charge piping, 30" front mount intercooler(bar and plate), bbtb 62mm, manifold (log), internal gated t3 garrett turbo .63 trim.......sequential bov, vac lines, new coolant lines, thermostat.....new cone filter, oil catch can, if I'm missing anything it's cuz I'm tired.... I can't think of anything else right now
but I got all of that for like 2900usd..... on the car....... driving ....... for that price...... thats why I didn't buy a kit ..... research pays off ....... in the wallet area.... trust me......
check out my cardomain below for pics...... of my 2900 set up .... you can't see the fmu or afpr cuz they aren't there yet... I need to update the pics before winter....

BUILD your own ..... you won't regret it ... well at times during the waiting for parts you will be pissed..... but when it's all done ...... ohhhhhhhhhhweeeeee you'll be a happy person..... a boosted happy person .....

To late! I've had my kit for about 5 months now.. and your probebly right in the end by saving me money.. but I know that leo over at j-tuners has very good communication and they will do alot for you...and I really didn't wait that long at most it was 3 weeks and the reason it took that long is because I had my turbo jet coated.

^^^ So your happy with the 2" charge and downpipe from Jtuners? Just wondering because it seems pretty small like said above.

Personally, I would run 2.25 on the hot side and 2.5 on the cold side.

^^well yeah heres what did... I just got the kit from j-tuners about 4 months ago initially I didn't have a intercooler hooked up to it so i was running it with out one.. I didn't like that Idea so about a week later I orderd a intercooler from johnyracecar.com. I had the option on what size piping to run... 2.5 is to big they said becuse of the room for the air or whatever. so I had them run 2.25 for the charg pipes and for the exhause side I have them running 2.5 al the way back to the muffler.. I guess I didn't want to type all that out^^
sorry

^^ Cool thanks.

well typically, my best suggestion for someone not needing larger charge pipes would be to run 2.25 from turbo to intercooler and 2.5 from intercooler to throttle body. this helps the turbo spool a little quicker

I'm gonna have to agree with Spotabee here. Except I plan to run 3" into the turbo, then everything else is 2.5", and I will likely use 3" for the exhaust. For these cars it seems like 2.5" charge pipes is plenty big enough.
"Silly cluth, glazing is for donuts!"
well I'm sitting at 11 pounds on stock internals right now .... with 2" charge piping ...... all around .... off my turbo too .... it has a 2" outlet.......and WHEN PEOPLE SAY TURBO LAG IS TO GIVE V8'S A CHANCE...... THATS BS....... (I HAVE NO TURBO LAG...... IN ANY GEAR) AT ALL ( i'm 5 pounds+ all the time ....)when I see 5 pounds and look back at the road quick and look back at my guage I'm at 11 and my head gets rather heavy ... haha
2" CHARGE PIPE = LESS ROOM FOR THE AIR TO FILL..... THUS CREATING LESS LAG OR IN SOME CASES WITH A PROPER TURBO AND SET UP NO LAG AT ALL.......
I'm not lying about having no lag...... what would lying gain .... nothing ...... I am just describing my experience .......... with my turbocharged 2200 with 2" charge piping ......
it's great I LOVE IT .........
I wasn't even concerned about the charge piping size..... it seems fine .... I was worried about that little dinky 2" downpipe..... WHATS GOING ON THERE ????
I have a 2.5" dp to a 3" mandrel with no cat or muffler....... I HAVE NO LAG..... AT ALLL !!!!!
n e ways thats sweet .... happy boosting .... great Idea for the intercooler...... turbo is really just a bad idea without one ..... mmmmmm just the thought of exhaust gas that is BOILING HOT entering my tb just sends chills up my spine !!!
