can you intercool a mostly stock 2.4 engine?
if so, what are the gains?

I sincerely hope you mean you are boosted on a mostly stock engine... cuz intercooling a stock non-boosted car is just plain RICE... why not go out and purchase one of those Front Mount Intake's, it would yield you better results.

thats what i thought, cuz there is a pair of 240's here that have nothing but an aluminum intake and intercooler. i was just wondering if there was even a point in doing it

nope. it'll slow your car down immensley. the day we mounted the greddy FMIC on our project turbo sedan and did up all the charge piping, we drove it across town to get funny looks (of course without a front bumper lol) and it was slow as piss.

yep, my friend's turbo h22 accord used to roll around with no turbo but the charge pipes and intercooler installed... slow as hell...

i wish u could intercool the gm s/c
I will resist the urge to flame you, and instead tell you why the answer is HELL NO:
First, the point of an intercooler is to cool the hot air flowing from a turbocharger. The turbocharger sits on your exhaust, and thus the air it is pushing towards your motor gets VERY hot. This is bad for performance, so an intercooler helps cool the air dramatically before it reaches the motor, allowing for more power per psi. Think of it like this, if you have a balloon partially inflated with 100 degree air, and you put it into the freezer, the balloon will shrink. There is the same ammount of air, it simply takes up less volume since it is colder. This is how the intercooler helps you make more power with the same ammound of pressure, in a nut shell.
Now for a naturally aspirated engine, that is a car with no turbo or supercharger, you are simply drawing in air from the outside world. Now to make power with your car, you want to get the air into the engine as fast as possible, and out fast too. Things like a K&N air filter and larger exhaust will help you do this. An intercooler will do nothing except clog the air flow into the engine, and make the motor work harder to breath. With a turbo or forced induction, the air is being pushed towards the engine, but in your car, your engine has to suck it in. You still want colder air though, so your answer would be get a cold air intake to draw in cool air from the fender or some place like that. An intercooler will do nothing but hurt your cars performance.
wow I am bored waiting for the last of my turbo pieces...
22 miles per gallon and dropping fast...
your abit off there Although the engine does heat up the charge temps its not the main reason. the main reason is becuase compresod air along with the process is very hot.
