I know what you are thinking.... "What the heck is a KT swap?" That would be KT (Katie) my "friend." Not a lot of horsepower but she sure gets up!
I'll have a hot bodies entry with her after I rework the body over the winter.
And on to the intercooler pictures:
I know you have to be wondering whats up with this. To my knowledge I am the first person to run their intercooler like this to date. I am using a modified radiator from a 1990 ford ranger with a 4.0 on the car. The radiator leaves just enough room to each side for the charge pipes to slip around. This intercooler is no joke though. I don't recomend doing this swap at all if you are not an experienced welder. There is a lot of structural modification that needs to be done. On the plus side, this is a beast of a radiator. It is a two core about 2.5" thick and the actual core extends all the way to the hood. You have to chop the radiator up a lot to get it to shut. The intercooler is 4" thick and sits on a bracket I made that extends a few inches past the lower radiator core support. Using this methode I was able to run larger charge pipes without sacrificing any spool time because it saves about 3 ft of charge piping. I've been doing everything I can to keep spooling to a minimum with the larger turbo and equal length turbo header. It should be ready in a week or two! I can't wait to hear the ball bearings after tuning and breaking in spooling to 20psi!

You don't have to tell me twice man. She stayed over last night and I woke up with a smile the size of my intercooler.
I just took some more pictures of the work. I finally got the radiator to fit. I had to chop a few tthings on the end tanks and now I am going back to plastic weld them back in. I have a special high-temperature plastic epoxy that I am going to seal it all with when I'm done.
As you can see, I put a high-power fan on the front. I am working on a mounting bracket for that now to hold it in place.
The whole purpose was to free up a few inches to make room for the equal length turbo header. It lookslike I've freed about an additional 5".
I'll leave more updates as I finish things.

Thanks man. Good luck with your turbo project too. Your car has really grown on me since the first time I saw it. Boost is going to bring it to a whoooole new level.
I ran into a little problem and made a quick solution for it. The cooling fan sat a little too high up when it was resting on the intercooler so I pushed th intercooler forward a little bit more to give about an inch of room between the radiator and the intercooler so the fan could sink down some. I made a bracket to hold the fan in place using a 1" square tube and some 1" L beam. A little chopping and welding left a very sturdy mounting possition for the fan. My only quarel is that I have to take the silicone connectors off the intercooler to slide it in. No big deal I guess. On with the pictures:
Working through the night/morning is exhausting!

well now that I know this, I'm not going to step pestering you.... which means you can't stop pestering her... until pics are taken and posted. Not necessarily asking for noodies, but I love being on car sites and seeing people post pics of their NASTY girlfriends, and I can't help but giggle when I see people like you and me who actually date attractive girls that like J-bodies (because yes they exist!)

LOVE the setup so far... After just installing a custom turbo setup of my own, I have really learned to appreciate other peoples' custom work. Makes the install alot more fun. Can't wait to see how everything runs man. Keep us informed!
P.S.: We'd like to see some more pics of the KT swap, too.
Just kidding. Cute chick!
Yeah, good luck with that. It looks so easy but then you get started and its like damn. I didn't know that I would have to think this hard about it. But, hopefully, it will all fit together right in the end.

Its all about the naked pics!! .....hehe J/Kidding.....or em I ?
^^^^^^^^^^Hahaha, I think you'rer right. The KT swap is going good though, it was a tight fit but I just got finished messaging in my downpipe.
Lol, she is a cool car chick. She drives a non-turbo eclipse. The motor is a little worn out so she's letting me do a 4g63 swap with a little better turbo system. I'm painting it hot pink in the spring.

Damn straigt! I should take a picture of the pile of metal that I have chopped off the front of the car. I think that all in all you just generally appreciate work more in general when you did it yourself.
So today I should be mounting the HKS ball bearing T3 up to the engine and making the brackets at the downpipe to hold it up. I will post progress pictures as they come about.
And spotahbee, that is a HUGE intercooler. I looks like the dog is leaving a nice steamer in the last picture. I mean... I would be mad.

Ya most of us know what its like to stay up all night fabricating just so we can prepare for the next days fabrication ..and the next days...and ...etc. But thats what makes us not a bunch of poser pussys with fart cans haha.. And for the ones that think the girls love us for our j body.... need to stop downloading animation porn. Keep up the good work Josh.
yea that Trust intercooler was $2600...

Looking good man. Running even a bigger turbo on the front of that motor is a challenge with how tight the fit is.(let alone a bigger rad. and intercooler) Interesting to see your different approach I will be keeping a eye out for sure to see how you end up redoing the core support looks great so far keep up the good work!
I was planning to use a V6 radiator and smaller intercooler but this is looking cool.

^^^^^ You speak the truth!!!
I've added roughly 5" of additional room with the whole swap.
It is a very difficult and time consuming job but I can give you some step-by-step insuctions if you want to try it in the future. With the swap you pretty much get a huge intercooler, huge radiator, room for a larger turbo, shorter charge pipes and the joys of an all around more efficient (colder air, better cooling) engine.
The down sides are all of the work and costs involved, the chasis rigidity that has to be made up for and the down time.
This week I should have her running.
Today I should be working on the bracing for the turbo on the actual engine and then it should be ready to drop in! There is a ton of room up front now so I am going to drop the whole engine block and trans in as one piece and then hook up the intake manifold, followed by the head, turbo manifold and everything else. Charge pipes will be made later this week and then the chasis will be braced and cooling hoses routed. All is looking really well!
