Hey guys.
Alright. When I drive pretty hard, my car still runs at about 1/2 on the temp gauge but the coolant will not just bubble, but flow out of the overflow tube. If I gun it hard all the way up chilliwack mountain, it will lose almost 2 litres once I stop. I tried blocking off the overflow tube, but when i did that it just spewed out from under the cap. Guessing it was more then 15psi that the cap can hold.
Anybody else have this problem or fix? I'm assuming its cause of the heat the s/c makes. But..the motor itself still runs very good temps. 1/2 on the gauge, maybe a touch higher. But I just flip on the fan over ride and it brings it down right away.
Thanks
Nate

Try using water wetter on your next coolant change. But use more water and less coolant.
I swear, as loud as you are, you should be doing at least 200 mph.

I tried that, but it didn't help.
Someone mentioned it could be blown head gasket and leaks when boosting. BUT, don't notice any disappering coolant other then what other flows into my make shift overflow catch can.

The day I installed my s/c....I drove it around the block a few times....then I drove it to my buddies shop.....where it spewed coolant out the overflow line......we let it cool down and put new coolant in......and it was fine after that...never did it again........
Not sure what happened but I think I had air in my lines......but who knows......

I got the same prolbem with my car right now. Mine is doing the same thing. BAD HEAD GASKET. do a compression test on all cylinders. your forcing pressure in the coolent chambers.

Well, i ll check today. But it would make sense, i noticed my gas milage has decreased quite a bit in the last couple of weeks.
Felpro gasket the way to go? .

i havent had a issue with my car.
good luck

Drove to my parents house 50km away. Hummed there. A p0171 code was pending because bank 1 was running lean and kicked the fan on. Which is bank one cylinders? But no coolant overflowed and nor was there a loss that i could tell. Was still full to the mark or damn close. I cleared the code and let it idle for another 10min and nothing. The temp gauge was going up and down pretty good on the ride tho.
I just pulled all the plugs and they all look identicle. They all look good. Theres nothing noticeable around the block/head, and all the cylinder look the same inside. A slight build up of carbon on the tops.
mm.. still think its the head gasket? Dont have a compression tester tho

I get the same thing. I have good and bad days. I can go a whole day with out a hint of a prolbem, but then the next day will be horrible. I still say get a compression test to be safe. I know my head gasket is bad, because now there is coolnt leaking a little out the front of the block. But when I pulled all my plugs they seemed fine too. So I wouldnt trust the look at the plugs trick on this one.
K. picked up a compression tester and tested it all thru twice.
with 6 cranks each time through each cyclinder was within 5-10 psi when my pops stopped cranking (210ps1) and they only fell about 10psi to 200. All four where nearly identical, each increasing in compression the same. They are all pretty much 100% percent of the highest compression recorded.
?? what now? I was hoping there would be a noticeable difference in one so that i know it was the head gasket..guessing its not?

mm..no bubbles in coolant when running. was running ruff when i took it for a spin. was pending code p0171 (lean in bank 1). I replaced thermo, cause it showed it was cold the hole time.
will take it for a test spin. Seems to be idling a bit ruff.
Just dont wanna admit what it is.

K. replaced thermostat b/c the temp didnt look right. Replaced O2 sensor b/c the wire was kinked pretty good. Once i did that, no more pending p0171 and it runs/idles just like new again. Driven the piss out of it on the way home with code reader on and no problems. Runs like a champ
BUT..the coolant still boils over. It did once, and i stopped 1/2 home. But it didn't boil over after that.

Maybe the head is cracked?Or it could be the head gasket.Do you have more water than antifreeze in the car?Maybe its getting so hot that the water is boiling.Add some anifreeze to it.Other than that i dont know what to tell you.Ive never had a problem like that.Good luck.

50/50 mix. I know.. i'm was worried that the gasket was going to. But, she runs perfect now that the o2 sensor has wires going to it (replaced the busted one). I want to do a leak down test, but don't have a compressor.

fck. Ok. Drove to coquitlam center (20km away), 1/2 litre in my over flow catch can. ok. We drove to chilliwack (86km away) (where i am now) and had to stop twice b/c a litre+ spilled over. fck. My rad (which is actually the resevoir cap) is kinda funked up. It doesnt stop turning, and i can get it tight, then it goes untight.
The radiator isn't clogged. I poured out almost the full 6litres, and can be sure close to 2 is in the block/heater core.
Going to get a new resevoir cap (yo gus), but worried that the water pump might not be working. What are signs of that. And does stuff only come out of the drain hole when it doesnt work. Is there anyway the car can still run at normal temps and the pump not be working 100%?.
Thanks for the help.. adam

Usually boiling coolant is caused by overheating from a bad headgasket. As mentioned do a compression test, also check to see if you've lost any coolant into the oil, remove oil filler cap after a hard drive and if its milky white you my friend are burning coolant.

I checked the oil, no milky residue. Comp check in all cyls were almost idential.
Does anybody know what that "H" thing between the two coolant hoses that go to the firewall does? I kinda looks like a one way check valve..not sure. Think my car may be leaking coolant from that. Anybody have any ideas?

Problem Solved.
Got a chance to hit gm for a new resevoir cap and VOILA. She's back to normal.
