Would 5lb of boost on a 2.2L Cavy be to much? I am seriously thinking of doing this as my first MAJOR mod to my (soon-to-be) Cavalier. Also, do they make a full turbo kit for this car? Any thoughts, ideas or info would be appreciated. Thanks. -Josh
do it right, and you'll be just fine, auto's react just the same as manuals, except there's no dwell time between shifting (really)
So, I don't have to really worry about BAD lag from the turbo when the RPM's drop down like they do on the Manuals?
Hey, my name is Josh, and I also own a 96 2.2L cavalier 4-door with the auto tranny
From experience, you will not have any problems with lag on your (soon-to-be) car. The car doesn't have a tach, but it hit 9 pounds of boost almost instantly, and that was with a 60 trim T3 with a .63 a/r exhaust housing.
Go with a JTuners kit or the Hahn kit. If JTuners, realize that you'll need to purchase some fuel mods to accompany it, but you will get the beautiful tubular manifold. For 5psi, you'd be safe with just an adjustable rising rate FPR, but you may want to get an inline fuel pump just in case.

better a delay than a disaster.
If you go Jtuners, and plan on running anymore than 8 psi I'd also have that manifold ceramic coated.

^^^^ Otherwise it'll crack like mine did
($500 POS) nice design however. Another thing, if you plan on running an intercooler(very smart idea, plus it makes a huge hp difference) dont blow the grand on the jtuners kit. I just finished intercooling my buddys cav, he got the ebay piping kit for like $140 with couplers and everything, and got an intercooler for around $200. Just my 2 pennies...since it'll save you around $500-$600 bucks
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
I've never seen this ebay piping kit. Did it work well?

It's all polished, 2.5" aluminum and its about 1/8 inch thick. It is definitely nice stuff. It comes with worm gear clamps though and the couplers arent the nicest but it was well worth the money since he's on a low bugdet. Just look under intercooler pipe kit on ebay they are all over the place.

thanks man I'm going to check that out right now.

Should I opt for the 2500 complete stage 1 kit or should I go stage 3 and get some other aftermarket parts for it? I'm in a rut here...
Note: nevermind the Stage 3, I just noticed it isn't a complete kit. What is the cheapest/average price to spend on boosting a Cavalier?

depends how big you want to go. I had mine under boost for less than $500...but some spend upwards of $4000

The amount of boost is not a factor when deciding on when to ceramic coat a manifold. I am pretty sure that a tuned motor running 30psi of boost should have about the same exhaust temp of a tuned motor running 8psi.
Either way, it would be a good idea to get the Jtuners header coated because it will begin to develope surface rust since it is made out of mild steel.

Just a note guys, ALL of our piping, that means header too, comes high-heat ceramic coated (included in the $2495 price).
