Hi everyone. I'm pretty new to the boost forum, but I have a few questions...
I want to turbcharge my ECO and I'm looking for the most efficient setup. I heard the Hahn kit is the best way to go right now, but I want to know what makes their kit superior to the others?
I was thinking about finding the "best" (most efficient) intercooler, piping(2.25 0r 2.50?) Turbocharger,... everything... Basically I want to peice together all the best parts... or very good parts. I'm not looking to go past 12 lbs of boost. Actually I only want to run around 6-8lbs.
Any suggestions? Is their any way possible to peice this together myself cheaply... if I didn't use top of the line parts?
I read the stickies at the top and I have been hangin around this website called www.homemadeturbo.com And I'm finding alot of good info there, but nothing Jbody or Eco specific.

I went custom and mine runs real good.
It spools SOO fast. I am using the saab 9-3t turbo (mitsu-TD04) and cast manifold. The turbo is small but pushes out 10 psi no problem. You can go higher if you want but I dont think it will go past 15psi or so. I have not tested it yet. The stock motor's limit is about the limit of the turbo so i think its perfect.
This is my THIRD turbo setup on this car and it is by far the best one i have ran.
Also I have rode in a hahn turboed car and it was pretty fast. It has more potential for high horsepower but spools slightly slower. Not much though.

Good info Brandson! Thanks! And I might just be able to pick up one of those turbo's cheap...somewhere...
Anyone else have any input?

hahn , has done alot of testing with their kit to have a great well rounded kit
several members have ran in the 12's with hahns kit
and hahns kit is very complete
I know there are a few people running crazy fast times with the Hahn kit, but I wanted to know why and what parts of the kit are so good?

I think it's the kit as a whole and the engineering that makes it so good. Not the small parts but the whole thing.

hahn's kit , is much like the gm s/c kit for the 2.4
VERY COMPLETE , NUTS BOLTS HARDWARE
Sorry to but in, but wow Brandonson I remember when you got your first turbo kit, then the nitrous but didnt know there was another kit in between. Cars looking sweet.
As far as the Hahn kit, just check the racing forum, nothing but good things in there with incredible numbers. I know Hypsy does well with it.

is there 2200 kit just as good
Chris did you see my post with a link to my newest setup?
Actually I had nitrous first, (stuck nitrous noid blew engine)
then turbo, (cav connection)
then nitrous again, (remembered how fun nitrous was so I went back)
then turbo again (designed my own kit)
then turbo again (designed a whole new kit using the saab turbo and manifold)
by FAR the saab turbo and manifold is the best setup I have had.

Piecing together your own kit would be the most cost-effective way to turbo your car, but notice I said cost-effective (you get what you pay for). There have been a few posts and stickies about what to include in a custom setup so do a search and see what you can find. As for the Hahn kit, its worth every penny. They engineered that kit very well and performs amazing from what I've seen. All depends on how much money you have and how much you want to accomplish.
Blown.
It's a simple equation. Boosting an ecotec? Hahn Racecraft.

Cost Efficent, yes. As far as getting what you pay for...eh...depends.
As long as you get quality parts & good deals, you should be fine. Another big thing people tend to forget when coming to building their own kit is tuning. They forget that tuning is EXTREMELY important. The guys with the Hahn kits tune their cars to the "T" to get where they are at. Turbo matching is also a very important part as well. You don't want too big of a turbo but you don't want too small of a turbo. It has to be JUST right.
I'm building my own kit and doing it for 4 reasons:
1. Most Cost Efficient
2. I'll have exactly what I want and not what some company puts together
3. To prove that you can put high amounts of boost on an stock auto tranny
4. To help people in the future who are interested in doing the same thing I am

My kit "cost" me under $1500 for a full kit intercooled with injectors and an fmu for fuel. Of course I still need better fuel but for under 1500 i got a quality turbo setup. I did my own welding so that saved me a bunch of money.

HELL yeah dude, knowing someone that welds or welding yourself saves a TON of money. Dad did all my welding, since he's been a welder for 30+ years. Gawd he's wonderful!
Thanks everyone for all the advice.
Brandoson, That sounds like a great setup for that kind of budget! I hope I can put together a nice setup like yours for that kind of money. Where did you get some of your parts?

doing your own welding is the way to go if you have a welder.
