THe Round thing on the Fuel Lines

Hey guys, on the fuel feed hardline of the 2.4, there is this round piece on it, i've talked to some people and they say its a device to make sure that no air bubbles enter the rail. I wanted to know if i can remove this piece because i wanna run braided lines and AN fittings directly onto the fuel rail.

They also told me that if i removed it, it might throw a code, something along the lines of the fuel pressure not being right??? If anybody knows thanks!

oh yeah if anyone has done this and know which size AN fits into the feed, please share! thanks!

my thought is that it could be a pulsation dampener to stabilize fuel pressure as injectors opening and closing can cause some decent fluctuations in pressure
