Possible Turbo problem
Wednesday, November 02, 2005 5:00 AM
I have an 89 Sunbird GT Turbo 2.0 OHC

To make a long story short, I rebuilt this engine as I was told the block may have a crack, it didn't, problem was the turbo bearing was letting water burn through the exhaust.

I had a 90 Sunbird GT to use for parts replacement. The only part I used was the whole manifold with Turbo attached.

Now that it's all together, it won't stay running.

It starts up, but will not go over 750 rpm and dies within 3-5 seconds. I have no control of the gas pedal, even though peddle does move the throttle plate. I have followed the Emission label on the underside of the hood and everything is hooked up, BUT, where the vaccum line runs from the boost controller up to the boost solenoid I have an extra opening for a vaccum line. ie: label shows 3 lines running to this, but I have 4 openings. I have tried putting the vaccum line into both positions and blocking off the other, car does the same either way. According to the label one thing that seems to be missing is an EGR chk switch, but the hard vaccum lines that should go to this switch go directly into the harness under throttle body.

I was able to drive this car into my garage so I know I'm missing something real stupid.

My heads getting sore from beating it into the wall, so any help would be great.

Thanks, Allen

how about try hooking everything back up as it should be and try starting it then. if it still does it you know you have another issue.
