where to buy a turbo (not a kit) in Canada ?
Friday, October 07, 2005 10:30 AM
Anyone know good places where I can buy a turbo. I know there's ebay, but there is not much choice, and I have never heard of a shop that sells turbos in Canada. Again what I want is the simple turbo not a kit.

We just became a Garrett Turbo dealer. As soon we get our price list I will start putting the turbochargers up on our site. We also deal Turbonetics turbochargers.

Dante - do you care about making a phone call to the east? You can call here 1-450-266-0744. Ask for Steve (the turbo guy). He'll be able to build you almost anything you want.

It's only an hour from you.

no but it's the company that makes his turbo I talk to Stephane alot for my 2.3.

He can call Stephane too @ 1-450-375-9399.

His company is SMP ( street machine performance). How did he do? I know last time I saw him at the track, he had problem.

Stephane buy used turbo and send them to the first company I gave and they rebuild them and send them back. He can build a really nice turbo kit for 3500-4000$ can.

just called stephane at SMP. He quoted me 5500 on a full turbo kit. So I asked him about individual parts and he said (canadian money)

850 $ for the turbo (Big 16G)
550 $ for the intercooler
800-900 $ for the full 2.5" exhaust.

That looks to me like it's a bit expensive. I mean johnnyracecar.com intercoolers are like 200 $ USD.

He also sounded (from the tone of his voice) like he was real busy which I didn't really appreciate being that I'm a potential customer for him, the first impression wasn't really positive...

That sucks... Every shop I call seems to be so expensive, aren't there good places to get good deals like johnnyracecar.com but in Canada ?

BTW I know boost is expensive, I'm just comparing with prices I've seen in the US.

5500$ is probably with the SDS EFI system. He doesn't build a turbo setup and put it on and call it a day. He will put an engine management system and tune it on the dyno before you get the car.

Being busy? He's always busy. He's a record holder of one of the fastest FWD car. Everybody go to him.

Another thing, the cahrge pipe are probably all ceramic coated and the dowpipe is to. You'll get a turbo HEADER (not a log manifold) ceramic coated.

At 5500$, you take the car out of the shop and you'll be running 10psi all day without 1 single problem.

Yes his intercooler are a bit expensive but I don't think that JRC will make you an intercooler with a custom size and inlet placement and a 3-4" thick core.

I've seen his kit, witch are all customs by the way, and they are worth the $$$ that you'll be spending.

He got his own dyno.

The exhaust is mendrel bent so it's not as cheap as a normal exhaust.

Anyway it's up to you but I've seen his kit and I know the guy, SunCavie got a good look at the knowledge of the guy. I was stupid trying to build my custom setup for my Gtz while I could have gone with Stephane and be twice faster and safer.

see the problem is I'm only going turbo it fits my budget, which is about 5000 $ CAD, so Stephane might have all the knowledge and tools in the world, if he can't do something for me within my budget, I'm not buying from him. That's why I'm hunting for good deals on parts. My idea is that I will gather the big parts like turbo, IC, tuning (the hp tuners software when it comes out), exhaust parts and then have a shop install it and the remaining parts.

I've check Jtuners and the base kit is 2495$ you add 995$ so you are at 3400$ US. Then you add the exchange and you get 4188$CAN. Then you have the customs witch bring the total up to 4481$CAN.

So that is 1019$ cheaper. You still don't have the whole exhaust, you have to install the kit YOURSELF, you have to go to the dyno to tune the car and you're only running 5 psi.

Stepahne is not trying to screw you. He's doing a great job but a great job got a price.

what you can do is buy some parts and have him install them. Like if you want a JRC intercooler well buy one and have SMP install it in the kit.
