hypsy proves it...12's with bolt-ons!
Friday, September 30, 2005 1:00 PM
Hypsy will post tomorrow (he's been talkative this month and ran out of posts), but he wanted everyone to know he's pulled it off...

12.83 @ 110 MPH!

He did this Thursday on Drag Radials, with his Stage II Hahn RaceCraft equipped Eco Cav. Made several 12 second passes. Stock engine, stock clutch, stock axles. His goal had been to run 12's with the standard Stage II turbosystem, a feat we all believed would require slicks, but he's shown now that it can be done on street rubber!

Congratulation on the highest order to hypsy (aka Ryne Hoover) and everyone in his posse who helped. He'll be by tomorrow to share details, but I believe he's already posted the timeslips to his registry.

Thanks, Hypsy! I'm like a proud papa seeing you do so well. Hard work pays off!

Yes, I'll admit, that's stretching the definition a bit, lol. Call me excited!

At first I wanted to say 'stock engine' in the subject, but it's not stock with a turbo added either! I settled on 'bolt-on' to infer that the engine's not been disassembled in any way, that the performance components (in this case, the turbosystem) were only 'bolted on' to the stock engine.

Hmm When I'm asked what's done to the car I usually just reply with "A couple of bolt ons." 99.9% of the HAHN kit just bolts on.

Hey Bill this is SunCavi, I talked to you at NOPI.
So 12.83 ah?? Ok so I have to go back to the track on Thursday and show him who the daddy is?? lol
Watch some 12.60's on a stock Eco, is it illegal to run a slick??
Or does that put me in a different category??

If so, then me and you shouldn't even count on the list, but anyways,
Mad props to Hypsy, cause I got mine from HIM, and it was finally time for him to do this.

So he is .03 faster than me, lets see what these slicks can really do screw these 1.90 60 foot, I want low 1.80's/ lol

Congrats hypsy!

Although, if Bill wants to provide me with a J and a turbo kit, I'll show you 12's without slicks or radials

Congrats Hypsy!

And... with the exception of most intakes... I don't belive in Bolt-On's. Half the @!#$ that is supposed to be bolt-on always requires little modifications here and there, or things that have to be done that take twice as long as projected for a certain task. So when you think about it, when there are no such thing as bolt ons... nope a turbo kit still isn't bolt on. And it wouldn't be a bolt-on even if there was such thing as bolt-ons lol. When people think of bolt-ons, they don't think of what most people call "major mods". And, yes, forced induction is a major mod.

Flame me all you like, that's just my $.02 and I pay $24.95 a year to have my $.02 on this board. so it's stayin

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

ok well i can finally post again so here goes...

1) thanks to bill and the hahn team; my buddy corey; my part time boss Jeff; and the guy at the track who gave me literally one run on his slicks...exactly what i asked for LOL. without you guys i wouldnt have made the 12s. now to go for more.

2) Thanks to the entire JBO. Especially those who said this couldnt be done. You were my motivation to keep going. The well wishers were nice but proving people wrong is a much better motivator in my book.

3) the slicks on run was a 12.91 second pass. its in my profile right now. that was done on 12PSI to match Hahns feat with their show car. The car could have gone much better (50s or 60s maybe) but it bogged off the line cause of the extra traction of the slicks and since I only got one run on them i couldnt experiment at all.

4) the 12.831 was done on my BFG Drag Radials (free plug ) 215/60/14 for the guy asking. 14pounds of air in the tires. 14 PSI boost on that run. Figured I'd have to crank it a little cause of the DRs but I was able to run a 12.92 on 12PSI on the DRs as well to back up the 12PSI slicks pass. Weather was pretty good but the track was colder than a witches t*t. 50 degree air temp with a (approx) 65-70 degree track temp. That track was hard to get hooked into. I was running 13.03-13.30 all night then i got adventurous and decided to slip the clutch out on one run. that was my first 12 second DR pass. after that i just kept slipping it out varying the speed that i slipped it with and the RPM i started at.

now i can go for broke, again, because i think this car will do a 50 as is on the radials with cold air and a warmer track. but we'll have to wait and see. time to visit the dyno as well to get some numbers for comparision but future modders.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.
