Figuring out the best gm s/c cold air intake?
Sunday, September 25, 2005 7:15 PM
Currently i have a 90 degree elbow(w/i nozzle in that) and some AEM piping wrapped in DEI heat wrap going striaght down from the t/b. and i have my air damn underneath drilled out with a few holes so the filter sees some more air sorta. The filter sits on the curved bar thingy that attachs to the subframe to the front of the car.

Anyways, i can pick up a RK cold air extension from a friend, so i can get the filter in the fender well. and i have a stock S tube.

I think that would be better then the pipe sitting in direct flow of the radiator heat . ?

any ideas.

thanks

ied like to know also. my filter is currently sitting right next to that curved bar thingy. always wondered if its worth all the extra bends to run it into the fender well.

ive got some 3" aluminum piping from ebay , and i gotta get some couplers , and a reducer
and il have a full custom 3" cai , im also going to make a panel to keep as much of the engine heat from the filter as possible

I just picked up a rksport extension and I'm gonna be installing it tomorrow.......Right now I've just got the filter next to the fuse/relay box.....

I gotta get a new rubber adapter thingy for my filter to fit on the extension........So I will be able to tell you if it makes a difference tomorrow!

staight shot over into the fenderwell seems like a good idea but you have to move the battery

I'm with Jake on not wanting to move my battery.......I just ordered a coupler to attach my intake to the extension so I will be updating asap when I get it hooked up!

I will make my own CAI for my S/C using a modified Ecotec engine stock "S" tube and a RK Sport cold air intake extension. I think that will work good.

I no longer have my spare tire, so I have a Optima Yellow Top that's made for a Honda in the spare tire area. I had to cut the cover so it pops out a bit, but I still have more than enough trunk space!

The smaller Honda battery has less cranking amps, but it's a yellow top, I mean come on .

Car starts just as it used to, we'll see how it is for CCA though when winter comes!

I had a custom intake made, basicly it goes straight down, and cuts accross where the tank for the windshiels washer fluid went, and the filter is right in front of the left wheel well. It's all 3" mandrel, and only 2 bends. I noticed a 100 degree drop in my EGT's at crusing speed on the highway by switching from a WAI. The only negative is I had to remove the washer fluid tank (I don't really miss it, but I will intsall one somewhere else someday.)

Yes sorry for the delay................

Before when I had just the wai, I would drive it and for the first 15 minutes it would be good......but then I could feel it losin power and pull as the air got hotter....

Now that I have the extension on.....it seems to pull the same the whole time I drive it....but the heatsoak still kicks in after a while........but my "soon to have bought" alky kit will fix that

I also noticed that the s/c is slightly louder than what it was before....

All in all I think it was worth 25 bucks

I'm gonna go take pics and I'll post them up in a few minutes......

Here is mine. 1 2 1/2" 180 degree bend from summit cut in half to get the correct angle and 1 leg cut down to go into the charger. tied together with a coupler from the Home Depot.

^ that isnt bad for the price you payed and it looks good. I Personally would have went with 3inch piping.

I am still torn though on what to do.
