For those with walbro fuel pump problems.

Hey,whats up?
A few months ago i started having problems with my car randomly stalling out on me.When i checked the fuel gauge when my car was ready to stall, i had very little pressure in the fuel rail. When the car started acting up on me it would start hesitating and clear itself up like nothing happened. Then it started to stall out completely, but it would run fine when i started it back up.The last few weeks is when it started to get bad.It would stall out while driving and when im at a red light or stop sign. But this time it wouldnt start back up unless the car sat for awhile.I got fed up and put a whole new fuel pump/sending unit in the car,and its been running perfect since.Today,i took the walbro pump out of the housing, and noticed the filter on the bottom of the pump was crushed.I dont know if the pump was pushed in too far,or it just collapsed from the vacuum of the pump. This explains why the car was shutting off on me.When the car shut off,the filter would open back up,and let the car start up again.I went to apeusa where i purchased the pump from, and they sell different style filters that are smaller and i dont think will get crushed. If i decide to put the walbro back in,im gonna pick up one of these filters and see how it works out. So,if anybody is having any problems with there walbro pump or,id check out the pickup filter if i were you.

The filter that you had on there the white one that comes with the pumps?

I'm about to put the walbro into my sending unit tomorrow and was wondering if I should use the stock filter or the white one........I got a whole new sending unit so I was thinking of just using the new filter off the stock pump.........

Maybe I will wait to put it back together until you see if the smaller filter makes the difference.........

glad u got it worked out.

with that filter on my cav, i am not sure which one we used. I would assume the one that came with the pump. But i had help from a guy who put one in his cav and he had no issues(either do i).

The past 3 days my car has not been running like it used to. I have the walbro 255 fuel pump and just recently the car will almost stall out for no reason. So i search and find this post..... Even when it's not under boost just normal cruising speeds, The car will bog hard and almost stall and then it catches itself. The first time it happened it scared the @!#$ out of me cause I watched my wide band shoot up to 17:1 I turned the car off and started it back up no problems for the rest of the day but i notice when i am under boost the my a/f numbers are increasing which is not a good sign, so i add more fuel and things are back to safe.. Car sits all day and I start up in the morning, same thing happens but this time under boost! again ugly a/f numbers - so now i am thinking it's got to be the pump because I am noticing I have to increase the amount of fuel being delivered to my 2 extra injectors every day just to keep up. I am almost to the point where the injectors are wide open. Which should give me some really rich a/f numbers but instead I am holding 11's until 7 PSI and then it can no longer keep up. I have had this working great and holding 11:1 a/f before for almost 10k miles and now this started happening out of no where. I have about 10k miles on the pump running 10 psi of boost. NO noticeable problems until now.

ptrblkz24 - Does this sound like what you were experiencing? Did the amount of gas in the tank make a difference? I have a 1/4 tank of gas. I am using the sock that came with the pump. maybe I should try using the stock one?

My car was pretty much acting the same way,but i never had to increase fuel pressure to maintain a good air/fuel ratio. It either ran good or it ran like crap. When my car first started acting up,it would bog slightly then catch itself. Then it got to a point where id be driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car felt like it stalled out.I would give it gas and it wouldnt move then out of no where it would run again. The amount of gas in the tank didnt make a difference with me,it would do it no matter how much gas i had.As for the sock,i dont know.Im just assuming thats what was wrong with my pump because my car is running perfect with the stock pump now.Your gonna have to drop your tank and check things out because sooner or later your car is gonna stall and it not gonna start back up unless the car sits for awhile.Good luck.
