cold startup problems
Thursday, September 22, 2005 10:07 AM
so ive noticed that on a cold morning or after work, i work till 2:30 a.m, if the cars been sitting for several hours il lgo out there and shell crank a bunch of times before firing, ive tried turning the key right to start, letting the fuel pump pressurize the lines and then start it, doing the above but turning th ekey off and then back on again until it gets to ull pressure in the lines and then starting it and nothing. im sure its got somehtign to do with the combinatin of things i running because it only started once i got the car finished with the turbo and such. im using the ac delco rapid fire plugs that the gm blower guys run gapped to .035, a walbro intank 255 lph pump, ford brown top injectors and ive got my safc leaned out to about 34% at 1000 rpm just to help the car idle without drowing itself in fuel. on a warm day like today was when i got outside it fires up no problem or if its only sat for a few hours, but when i go into work and come out after 5 hours or so for lunch itll do it for me on a cold nite, any input would be great thanks

mine does the same thing. no real reason why that i could find by following basic troubleshooting paths so i just deal with it. plus mine sounds really pissed off when cranking over and the kids next door love it (8 and 10 year olds). they love to wait outside their house for me to leave for school cause they know ill light then up for them if its not too early. its usually about 8AM when i leave so i see no harm

basically...deal with it...LOL. sorry i couldnt help more

the begi fmu hahn uses isnt holding pressure once the car is shut off , its the only reason i can think of , cause the intake pump is still the stock 1 , and the only other part that is susposed to hold pressure is the stock fpr , which is replaced with the begi fmu

fstcav's starts up but you do notice a little extra time while cranking

sounds like somethings happend to your warmup enrichments. you could try richening it back up on cold nights just to start and roll it back once its warmend up. gas wont atomize in a cold engine nearly as well as it would in a warm one so if your not spitting out extra fuel when starting cold it may be hard to get it to start. another thing to check is your coolant temp sensor. if theres any problem with that the pcm wont know to enable warmup / coldstart enrichments.

that is probably the reason considering i couldnt find anything else wrong. oh well....nothing major to me and nothing thats gonna kill the car.

thanks for all the replies guys, its not a big deal i jsut wanted to see if anyone else had anything similar and if they knew what it was. other than thtat the cars fantasic, i need a fpr for the rail though, she still diles a bit rough when slowing down and the odd time stalls, bt i htink ive found a way around it, i jut make sure i coast to a sto pand not just push the clutch in as im about to stop, i can see the air fuel ratio drop down just before i stop that wya and it doesnt dump a bunch of extra fuel
