my turbo kit.. i am a newbie to boost and i am tryin to learn as i go so take it ez on me. and no not intercooled yet but it ill be by winter..

Here are my questions...

^^^^ what goes to those two im pretty sure 1 goes to wastegate

^^^^^this comes frome the top of the bov and splits 3 ways. does it go to the wastegate actuator and those other two on the compressor housing or where do they go?

and finally would it be safe to run my 370cc injectors on my stock fpr for a week or two until i get a afpr or fmu (dont know wich one i really should get... any opinions???) any help would be great

No one is going to replay and if they do it won't be nice....I myself am new to boost also, I'm waiting to get a 2K Cavy b4 I boost, but I started researching early. I just bought the best book you could possibly get...Maximum Boost by Corkey Bell. Buy that, read it, read it again and then ask questions if you have them. Hope that helps you.

What did you say? Stock? Wow I need one of those!

you need the book. as posted by Wichita, Maximum Boost is a little outdated but the basics and foundation are there.

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

first get that book.(maximum boost) read it but that still wont mean you necessarily know what your dooing. I also recomend picking up and reading "how to tune and modify engine management systems" its a boring read but its more up to date then maximum boost and will leave you with a greater understanding of how your car thinks.

as for the lines if i was in your suitation a firstimer messin with it.... i think i see a boost controller in that pic but i cant be sure. i wouldint even hook that up at first. run line from the compressor outlet directly to the wastegate. cap the other one on the compressor housing off. hook your boost guage to the same source as your map sensor. (on the manifold) some people like to get their boost reading from the turbo itself so their # is higher then whats actualy making it to the engine.(pointless) also if the kit has a bov hook that to manifold vac line (most likely same one the map and boost guage are on. there is a nipple on the manifold just before the throttle body in the front thats good to use for these things. (2.4) once you have your intercooler on and you are more confident with your abilities you can hook a boost controller up and that can vary depending on type but typicaly it will simple go between the port on the compressor outlet and the wastegate.

i wouldint recomend installing this until you have some method of controlling fuel other then larger injectors. many people run a fmu but i would have to recomend against that route and to look into something like an e-manage. its more money but well worth it.

Things to keep in mind if your going to boost:
-however much you *think its going to cost to do it DOUBLE THAT AMMOUNT if you plan to do it right.
-GET A WIDEBAND dont consider this optional. the aem one is good since it provides a 1-5v signal for engine management, serial for logging / viewing, and a visual guage in one package.
-if you plan to run any more then like 10 psi or plan to toy with ignition timing GET AN EGT guage! this will let you know a number of things while tuning (read up)
-Take babysteps! dont do more then one thing at a time and always be able to go back to where you started.
-Oh yeah and dont be afraid to ask for help. of course use the search but theres a few of us on here more then willing to help out

yea i think im goingto the junkyard to get a intercooler off a volvo turbo (will this work at 8psi?) tomoro and a 2.3 intakemanifold and as for the fuel would it be safe to run a fmu until x-mas wen i can get the more pricey stuff?

you definately have the right idea any intercooler is better then no intercooler! (well to a point) the volvo ones are quite large and you may find it dificult to install. a good flowing one to consider is a smaller unit on some saab 900's its a "bar and plate" style intercooler that will fit confortably up front. i wouldint recomend the 2.3 manifold. its ALOT of work and actualy wont help you much under boost. the reason is that manifold gives more power up top wheres the stocker helps more down low. you need as much low end torque as you can get to spool that turbo. the turbo will take care of top end power. if you were building an engine for serious power then maybe an intake manifold swap should be considered, til then i honestly wouldint bother. the fmu should be fine for lower boost applications but if ya can take the time to either tune it on a dyno or get a wideband to make sure you not leaning out otherwise your going to be at the junkyard pulling an engine.

well i can get the volvo one real cheap and i have alot of room so would it flow good enough?i have been trying to find someone that has a good intercooler and piping for a reasonable price. and i guess i will try to get a fmu next paycheck and maybe i can find someone with a wideband thats around the middle tennessee area that knows what they are doing so i can get this thing dialed in.. lol "hopefully" thanks for the help tho
