Dyno Question
Tuesday, September 13, 2005 5:00 PM
Alright I'm going this weekend to dyno my setup at 13 lbs of boost. From what I understand, I'm suppose to get the reading in 4th gear right? Is there anything else I should know? And what readouts should I get? Boost and AFR, and then RPMS and Boost? I'm paying for an hour of time, so I would think I should have time to make adjustments ect. Thanks.

I think you pull in third because of the speed limiter coming on before you get through the rpms in fourth.

coould'nt you just unplug the sensor? I thought Bill Hahn stated that is what they do

I unplugged the sensor in mine too. As long as you dont have digital mileage you'll be fine. If it's digital when you plug it back in it will read Error and then you have to explain to the dealership so they can fix it. 4th gear is good and you'll get HP, Torque, Air Fuel Reading by RPM providing they can get a good rpm signal from your car. If you dont have spark plug wires like the 2.4's they will have to find the tach signal off the coil which takes a special rpm pick, its smaller. If they have a optical rpm pick up then your good. They should let you make some minor adjustments but usually it costs more when someone wants to rent time to tune their own car.

Some really wrong info here. I have unpluged mine as well many other digital clusters cars VSS, and never had a issue once plugging it back up. I know many others on here who have as well. Also it is not hard to get a tach signal on a 2.4. They can put that big clip (same one they use on spark plug wires) on the wires going into the IDI and get the tach signal. Or you can put it on the pink wire which is the tach signal one.

Great now my thread gets locked....

Jeff Marmus: You do not need to go over 108 mph. If your 1/4 mile trap speed is that high than my advice to you is to buy a service manual. I wouldn't rev my engine anything past what the fuel cutoff is at. Both limiters are there for a reason. If you have further questions please take it somewhere else, don't jack my thread. Thank you.

Sorry dude I didn't know that is not allowed to be discussed, as for the revlimiter on a built engine im pretty sure its not going to bugger it up if I rev it higher than 6500

Thanks for understanding.

One more question, what would be the best AFR to tune for? My setup is in my profile. Thanks.

^ Never tune for an AFR, tune for knock and power, just watch your AFR so it doesn't go too high. Most people just tune for 12.5:1 or so

It really depends on what kind of dyno you'll be using.

I'll be using the dyno on this website: http://monkeywrenchracing.com/services.html

All the people I've asked in my area of michigan said this was the best place.

Ahh cool, you must be a local to me.

On thier dyno it does not matter what gear you dyno it. They are able to reprogram the dyno for any gear ratio for any gear.
