i wanna turbo my 99 2.4 and i heard that the best thing to go with for fuel upgrade is the E-manage. what do i need exactly other than just the unit.........i dont wanna get more stuff for it that i dont need, just want the exact stuff i need for the emanage unit
that is one route some people have gone. another is megasquirt. there is a thread about this the next page over or so. "megasquirt revisited"

I think that all you really need is the main unit but there are a few extra parts you can get. Im selling a brand new emanage and accesories if you would be interested

Megasuirt is NOT comparable to AEM EMS. The AEM unit is a standalone and controls everything. Megasuirit only controls fuel. Someone correct me if Im wrong but I dont think I am

Actually you both are partly wrong...
Boardorgohome, Megasquirt is not a standalone, It is a Piggyback system. A standalone connects to all your sensors and allows you to adjust anything you want.
Steve Winslow, Megasquirt doesn't just control fuel, it allows you to change ignition timing and also allows you to remove your rev limiter (also has other features).

To answer your question...
With the e-manage you need a way to view what you are doing. You can use a Laptop with their software (which you have to purchase seperately) or you can use the
Greddy Profec E-01 to view what you are doing.
Also, if you need the PCM wiring diagram for your car go here:
1999 2.4 Motor PCM Wiring Diagram.
Hope this helped...

Boardorgohome(loves NC again) wrote:damn, i was close, i did know it controlled more than just fuel
Yup...you can read more about it here:

Actually the megasquirt is more of a standalone than a piggyback.... The main difference between a piggyback and a standalone is this:
A piggyback MODIFIES sensor readings and sometimes control outputs in conjunction with the stock ECU. It DOES NOT do complete calculations and it cannot function without the stock ecu there to help it along.
A standalone USES IT"S OWN SENSORS and calculates it's OWN values to control whatever it is you are trying to control (injectors in this case). Your stock ECU has nothing to do with what's going on in this scenario.
So what the emanage does is it modifies sensor readings that are fed to the cars stock ECU. So by modifying what the stock ecu sees (via the emanage) you can somewhat control engine parameters like injector pulse width and ignition timing. The other part of the emanage which "modifies" ECU outputs is the add. injector control. What this does is it grounds out the injectors for an additional set period of time to keep them open longer than stock. But this is still based of a percentage of the stock open time.
The megasquirt on the other hand is a FULL STANDALONE FUEL MANAGEMENT COMPUTER. Now don't mis-read what i said, not a standalone engine MANAGEMENT system, but it absolutely is a standalone fuel computer(or fuel MANAGEMENT system if you prefer TF&F termonaligy). The megasquirt uses it's own set of sensors (or you can share the stock ones but I'm not gonna explain that) to control how fuel is delivered. When you are running the megasquirt to control injectors the factory ecu is completely out of the loop in reguards to fuel control. The MS reads such things as MAP, IAT, TPS, O2, RPM, and some others, uses this data only to make fuel calculations, and then directly operates the fuel injectors on it's own wiring harness completely separate of the stock everything. There is no part of the MS that looks at what the stock ECU is doing and bases it's fuel delivery on that.
I'm not trying to rant here, or sound like I am a genius, I'm just trying to get the facts strait on what is what here. I HAVE ACTUALLY INSTALLED AND TUNED on an emanage, and I have assembled and am in the process of installing the MS (ditching emanage because of it's limitations as it is a piggyback). I find it hard to swallow when someone gives advice based on what they have read somewhere(especially when there probably reading what someone else who dosn't actually have the product in question wrote)
NOW to answer your question about what you "need"
In order to get basic tune-ability out of the emanage all you really need is what comes with the main unit. This will allow you to adjust MAP sensor readings at 5 different RPM points with a value of +/- 20%...... However....... What you SHOULD GET is the following:
-Main unit
-PC Config Tool
-Add injection harness
-Ignition harness
-some form of a 2 or 3 bar map sensor
you can get packages including all of these things at places such as mohdparts.com, however I found it a little more cost effective to use ebay as long as your comfortable with it. All in all i spent about $435 for everything listed above plus a few other small install things. It's a good system, but make sure you do all your research b4 you start buying parts.
Good Luck

K dude if youre gonna boost you need a support tool (Can hook it up to the laptop), Injector Harness, Ignition Harness, and the Pressure sensor. Injector harness controls fuel better than normal unit does, the ignition harness controls the timing, and the pressure sensor senses pressure so it can map boost on the Fuel Map. You will definetly need to go to the dyno to get your car tuned after you do all this but the results are definetly woth it.
