were can i get a cooler thermostat for my car?! every were i go i hear that 180 is stock. i thought 195 was...
i want my motor to run cooler.

you can take it out and your car will run at about 150 on hot days, I do it to keep detonation down along with a 14" fan on a switch.
do not use a lower t-stat , youll end up causing problems , the car wasnt designed to run a cooler t-stat , stock is 180-185
its just the gague that shows you 195
and not running a t-stat at all is even worse , and will cause alot more problems , oil sludge is 1 of them , cause the oil doesnt get hot enough to burn off
if you want to controll the temp , get a larger radiator , and dual fans
im geting another fan, i want it to run cooler because with boost its better. i am fully awear of the problems sutch as closed loop and what not... i still want one.

Actually that is not correct. Do you have proof of any of this? With a coller stat your car will take longer to warm up.
Now our cars have a 180 stat, but yet they run at 195. once the stat opens the first time from a cold start it is open from then on. It does not shut and re-open, because it is past 180. If you ran with a 160 stat it will take a little longer to heat up, because the stat will open sooner, but for boosted guys this is not such a big deal. Even a N/A, it might run rich until it is warm. I still think the computer switches to running off the O2 sensor before 160 on warm up.

ive been doing this along time (over 20 years), and even hard core racers know to use t-stats , or restrictors
our cars are designed to run with the stock rating and that is what the computer is tuned for , also on obd2 systems they are more critical
also i had and have heard from other members , or running rich enough that it cause the cat to get clogged up
if you had a gauge to read the temp from the computer , you would see its actually lower than the factory gauge , depending on the current outside temps
also the oil takes a certain temp to burn off the contaminants in it , and if the motor does not get hot enough this action never happens and causes sludge build up , alot sooner
well as per the otc- gensisious ( sp? ) its at 195.... right were the gauge reads...
my guestion remains.. were can i get one. i know some people have it..

you did not read none of my post, or at least did not respond to it. The car will still run the same temp. Just takes a little longer to get to that temp. Also I have looked at the temp the computer gets, with a hand held scanner, same as wht my gauge reads (give or take 1-2 degrees). Yes during warm up the car is going to run rich. Once to temp (and it will get to temp). I also have talked with other people, people who have been around cars longer than myself, and others, building V8's, fords, chevy's they say the same thing. The car is still going to run the same temp, once the stat opens it stays open. the only realy way to make the car run cooler is like you have said Bigger radiator, but doing what you said could actually cause the problems your talking about, but not the cooler stat.

the aero force scan gauge reads about 5-10 degrees cooler than my gauge during colder weather (keep in mind our weather is 100-110 right now) and during the hot part of the day they are close
ive got a 68 elcamino , and if i put a 160 in it , it will stay at 160-165 all day long , but 160 is not hot enough to burn off the fuel and moisture that gets into the oil , it is close and better than running no t-stat

.. my car runs so rich that raw fule comes out of the exhauset. at start up or just ideling and reving the motor up hard...lol but then agane i dont have a cat. with full 2.5" exhaust.

I will agree on the warming up issue. I have a friend (who owns a J, he is a older V8 person), he has a Chevy truck with a 350. No stat runs still at 180.
Like I have said before for turbo guys, or boosted J's running a cooler stat is not going to cuase any isues. One oil is used to cool the turbo so the oil is going to get hot, and burn things off. Do you not agree?
I never said this is for anyone to do.
For a boosted car, with the heat in the engine bay the motor will get to temp just fine.
Also just because the water temp is a set temp, does not mean the engine oil is that temp, actually it would more than likely be more. The oil is getting direct friction heating it up.
I will also agree that depending on where you live and the temps you get running a lower stat would take longer for warm up. normally it is only people who live in hotter areas, like we do that want cooler stats. I know most V8's in my area do, even the newer ODBII cars. With no problems.

you can get the 160 thermostat at advance i would just have to talk to my store manager because he showed me how to which the last number on the part number to get a cooler thermostat

i would think the only plus to doing this is to keep a car in open loop for tuning purposes. it wastes gas..
also if your car is pouring gas out the exhaust, then tune it

I just recently purchased a 160 degree t-state from summit, I dont have any problems yet (knock on wood) but then againI havn't put more than 300 miles on it since then, also I'm boosted as well, not that it makes a diff.

I have a boosted 2001 2200.....
I have a 180 degree t-stat stock......
I bought a new one..... and drilled 5 small holes through the outter edge of the t-stat.............. close enough, but not too close that I mess up the rubber seal................this allows coolant through even though the t-stat isn't open...... it works awesome.... stock fan on a switch.... and my car never even gets fully warm unless I turn off the fan.... woot..

How does this mod waste gas? J's switch from open loop to closed loop around 103 degree's. So by the time the stat opens the car will already be in closed loop. It might make a 5-10 degree in temp difference, but a good chance it will not and the car still run at the same temp. If you take a stock stat it will say what size it is (stamped on it) you can go to the parts stroe and find a 160 in that size.

you can go to autozone and just say i need a thermostat for my car, they will look your car up, and then you just say, i need the 160 one. they will go grab it for you and you buy it. as for wether it is good for the car or not, i have no clue.
Goal is to make my N/A Auto faster then a manual without doing engine internals
