so, i was lookin at my engine bay the other day, and with a/c on and on idle, the tensioner on the belt is CRAZY wobbly, not crazy, but a good inch or so in play up and down. i know this isn't supposed to be like this. i turned the a/c off, and for the most part it went away. also when i sped up the rpms via the tb, it went away and the tensioner was non-moving. but when it went back to idle, it was super shaky again. i dont remember it being shaky when the charger was off.
1) could it be that my tensioner is bad?
2) if so, could it be cuz of the extra load from the charger?
3) if so, or could it be just a coincidence and it was on its way out anyway?
4) its fine, just wobbly because the a/c is on?
5) if so, whats the price on a new one, and how hard is it to install? any tips on install would be great
6) does this belong in the maintenance forum? lol

Mine was doing the same thing so I changed it a couple months ago....
I'm pretty sure this is the part# from gmpartsdirect.com 24575354 $40.11
Its not too bad but in order to change it out you have to take the s/c off and the alternator...and there is 3 bolts holding it on....2 from the front and 1 on the side......
Now that I have a new one in there the thing doesnt wobble at all w/ the a/c on.....So yea I would change the tensioner.....
Oh and Have fun!
Car is for Sale!Supercharger kit is for sale!
when i installed my s/c the tensioner had low mile's/ same as the 2k motor. i think like 12k miles.
i will take a look at mine outta curiousity . but i have no worries.
maybe see if u can get down there and make sure all the tensioner bolts are tight, never know. not sure if u have to rip all that stuff off, but maybe u can get to it from the inner fenderwell?
good luck
I had to jack my engine up. Although, I do have a 2002 cav w/ a 2200 engine.

tensioner could be weak , also the belt could be streched
mine isnt makeing any noise like that , and ive got a auto , but my tensioner came off a motor with 4,000 miles
the tensioner is easy but the s/c has to be off to replace , and there is a nut on the backside that you cant see , or you can pull the tensioner bracket off and then replace it that way
#4!
You would feel/hear if the tensioner is going bad and even a battery light might come on if the tensioner is not doing its job.

well, in certain times of giving a little gas, the tensioner would spring back *cluck* with the increased load.
