Ok, here is the situation. I am going to upgrade my whole exhaust (header and all the way back) and probably get an intake in the very near future. I am also planning on boosting my car although that won't be anytime soon since I don't have the funds right now for that and I do not know much about boost yet. My question is what size exhaust piping to go with? I know that in the boost faq sticky it recommends 2.5" piping but I am unsure if that will be alright for a non-boosted application (so far I am stock) and I am leaning toward 2.25".
Please help me decide on a size.
Thanks
You will lose power with 2.5 unless you are boosted. I would go with 2.25.
I would go with 2.5. You're not gonna lose that much power if any and you won't regret it when you boost. Your gonna end up redoing your exhaust when you boost anyway so save your loot
z24 aint afraid of no ecotec

That's exactly what I want to avoid. I just don't want to redo my exhaust and end up with little or no power gain because I lose as much power as I gain until I do get boost.
you wont lose power with a 2.5" exhaust compared to 2.25" piping. you will gain power from both but with the 2.5" piping, the peak horsepower will move slighty higher in the rpm band. it'll be barely noticable between the two, so its a good idea to plan ahead and go for the 2.5".

450WHP Turbo Ecotec swap in the works...
Ok, I will go with the 2.5". Thanks for the information.
Why not just get a cutout for your stock exhuast.......thats what I plan on doing when I turbo mine.
Just a thought tho....might even be cheaper.....who knows.....
Thanx Charles
Adding to this. Should i even bother with a header when planning on boosting within the year and just get 2.5 Cat and piping all the way back?
I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.
DOH!
