Removed my catalytic converter

I made the mistake of removing that thing. it sounds like crap and now my exhuast is hacked up. I didnt feel any difference in performance in the top end either under boost.(gm s/c)

SO i am going to order a catco cat and have my mid section of my exhuast re done the correct way.

arggh.

anyone else have a removed cat' and a gm sc?

I tried it once, it was a waste of time , now i have cat co cat with a o2 simulator. Its best that you put one on ,besides it throws codes without one.

Catco cat's break down. Mine lasted 3 months.... the ceramic in there doesn't like the heat of boost or being REMOTELY Rich.

Be smart, hit up the VIBRANT website and check out their new Stainlees-Core high flow cats.... no ceramic element to break down and it flows more than a high flow ceramic cat.... these were designed with boosted cars in mind that have way more heat and richness in the exhuast.

Good luck.

I had one on my car back in the day, it didn't last long for me either. I think i went threw 2 or 3 bottles with it before it was dead.

Removing the cat will add hp but it will also add sound. If you don't like the added sound just put a muffler in its place, its as simple as that....

^ Yep.

Mine is gone, I removed it, along with the factory resonator. Installed a bigger 27" resonator in the mid-section, and a 02 sim later everything is great. I noticed no loss, maybe a little gain, hard to say as I had my exhaust redone a few times.

lol...... jake jake jake........

yes.... add another resonator...... or take the one out you have, and put a longer one in. My '02 is getting a 20" (some where about there) in place of the cat (never put one in after I turboed it)

I have a nice one for you, sitting in my dad's garage..... 2.5"......

i will think about it.

how much is a vibrant one? thing is i dont want to spend too much money.

thanks for the input.

How long have you had the cat out? I know on the Reaper we noticed a nice gain after removing it. My N/A Z I'm running without a cat as well, it is very loud, but the car hauls!!!!!!! Also as far as a code that is a easy $4 fix.

well after running it for a while and it really isnt that annoying . it is raspy.

i am noticing the throttle response is better, and it feels faster.

so what i am going to do is get a 45inch glasspack from summit and have it put in there. should queit it down a little more, and that way i will have it professional done and no more hacked up exhuast.

No glasspack. Won't do crap for the raspiness. I have a 35" one from summit and it didn't do jack for me. Get an actual resonator. The difference between a resonator and a glasspack is that the resonator has an open chamber with room for the sound to bounce around...versus the glasspack with fiberglass padding in the way.

I bought 2 2.5" resonators from a company on ebay. Decent quality and they look like they'll do the job. Just look up resonator on there and find one that doesn't have any wadding material in it.
