Possibly Stupid question about Oil flanges
Tuesday, July 26, 2005 6:24 PM
Ok Ive been looking around for a good price on an oil inlet flange for my turbo and just lately in magazines and car shows and the like Ive been seeing cars that they have no oil inlet flange but just a elbow threaded into the hole where the flange would normally be.

Now my question is do some turbos just come with that hole threaded or are these guys tapping the hole? if so how do they avoid getting shavings into the oil bearing of the turbo? Ive got a few of the fittings that Im seeing used they came with my oil lines and if I could save a the 15 or so bucks that I would spend on a flange yay for me.

Oil drain has a flange.. oil inlet is screwed straight into the turbo since it's under a lot of pressure... at least that is how mine is setup and many that I've seen.

Yea Im guessing its just people tapping it then, cause mines deffinently not tapped but lots seem to be, considering the oil inlet flanges are around 20 bucks it seems the way to go.

oh and yes i know there is a drain flange im not mixing it up

shouldn't be under that much pressure, 30psi at most (which is a lot yes, but not compared to engine oil press.)

My oil inlet is tapped- However, I will not be threading a fitting directly to it...

I bought an oil inlet flange with a oil restrictor built into it.

my garrett came with the hole all ready tapped, but when I was buying everything I needed I bought a flange too. I bought mine from a company off ebay called function 7. its a pretty nice flange and its cheap, id look into it if I were you.
