T3 too much for a 2.4?
Thursday, July 21, 2005 1:33 PM
Would a T3 on a 2.4 be unreasonable at a low boost? I want a safe turbo setup and want to keep boost around 6-8PSI. I have a Garret T3, would it be a waste of time to put this on?

what are the aspect ratio's? my T3 is .42 compressor, .48 exhaust. that size should spool up really fast, and would be great for 6-8 psi

Not at all, most people with 2.4's run T3/T4's and T3 Super 60's. Personally, I wouldn't go any smaller than a T3, my turbo is way too small and will be upgraded as soon as I can afford it, that and as soon as I can afford to install the kit...

You've spent too much time researching high definition TV's and projectors ... you meant area/radius ratio or A/R ratio.

Anyways, the T3 will be fine for 6-8 psi. And later, you can likely bolt a T3/T4 turbo in it's place with minimal changes to your piping.

It's not Psi your really looking for in turbos. Remember that too much psi can brake your intake valves and sometimes not even push as much air through as a larger turbo at lower boost. The itea is to look at a turbo's CFM ratings.

I don't think I've ever heard of that happening...

You guys are all on crack. Stop trying to fool him into thinking a T3 is an acceptable turbo for a LD9.

It's way too huge.... .48turbine and .42 compressor? That's HUGE!

Listen. Stick to a smaller properly sized turbo... the biggest you want is a Garrett T25 and even then, it will only spool at around 4000 rpm.

Also, if you can. Get a water cooled AND oil cooled unit, but run oil through both sides to keep the turbo cool because it gets very very very hot. Probably around 300 degrees.

Oh, and for your information - CFM's don't mean crap all. PSI is everything... 6 psi is 6 psi.. I didn't know you could change a pound per square inch.

2.4's don't even have intake valves, so I don't see how you could break them at 6-8 psi.

You can break the water jackets at around 3 psi though so be careful.

Good luck!

^ Stoopid newb, it has intake valves, the 2.4 is the one without the flux capacitor

In all seriousness, since you are a boost newbie, SFGT just wants some attention, don't pay up
