would LOVE to sell mine, but i got way to much invested. would be a total loss. Cavaliers don't have enough support for me. thats why i am not modifying mine anymore. 10 psi for life. lol.

it is true, dont get me wrong guys i love my cavy but yes, you can only make a cavalier so fast without spending stupid amounts of money. i have reached the stopping point with my 96 cav... i have fully forged engine running a RSM stage 1 blower and im still not happy but its getting to the point were its a big pit just like "sdsgt" stated. i owe 900 dollars on my cavalier and im gunna keep it cause i would loose my a** if i tried to sell it. you know its getting bad when you have more in your engine than what you paid for your car and ur only running 13's. i plan on finding me a LS1 Trans Am Ram Air this spring to begin my fast car buildup. but no matter what, j-bodies still rock and ARE the best looking sport compacts...........

There lies your problem........ the RSM blower is for Road Courses, not drag racing.....

You can find a 3rd gen cavi for $2,000 or less and spend $1,000 to make it pretty as new again. Then, y ou can invest $17,000 into the motor and make it run 11s or 12s. Sure, the retail value of the car wouldn't be very high, but you would have a very respected, attractive and fast vehicle and STILL not pay as much as a new car that runs high 14s. Not only all of that, but you don't HAVE to make your payments every month. You can hold off until next month to buuy your pistons or wastegate. You can't skip a payment on a new car.

i'm not selling because the motor isn't powerful enough. its just time to try on a car that i will envy more to own. a 12 second cavalier is fun, but in the end its still a cavalier.

well that and i might have a great deal come through on a biturbo S4

I've had my offers, and I've considered selling....

Some people are actually interested in a fully finished turbo'd sunfire here in Toronto... you'd be surprise the $$$ I've been offered.

But then I take the car out and drive it and realize 3 things:

1 - I built the car myself.
2 - Once sold it will never be the same car again
3 - I'll regret it if I ever see the car drive by

I simply can't let go of something I created and made into something pretty damn amazing. Sweetness will probably be around forever, as much as I hate dumping money into it.....

And while in the end it's still "just" a sunfire... a honda is JUST a honda. A car is JUST a car. What I've made of it has always and will ALWAYS make people take a step back and say "woah".... and then give it a good hard look before telling me they want nothing to do with my "sunflower" .

People have begun to call her by her name, finally.

Sweetness deserves no less.

lol it does not cost $17k do get 12's or 11's.. no where near that. that was just stating his point i believe..

and in fact the price of going fast has been steadily decreasing as we find out what it takes on our J's. also there is nothing magical about a pos honda.. they dont click their heels twice and they are there.. sheesh. they have a list of what to do to certian models. they had people do it first, then perfect, then document. you think it was cheap for the first guys? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. everyone said ohh yeah 4 banger wont do 14's and for a while it didnt. then people spent money NOT being followers. they liked their cars. and blam look what they have. those guys were pioneers, just like we have a few on our platform. the dsm turds are the lucky ones why not cheese on them. honda guys worked for it in the beginning, like we have to. right now we have all we need except EASY chips/tuners (enter HPT or ODB2proj if they actually pull through) we already have JBP who will alter a bunch of stuff. who cares if they have 5,000,000,000 turbo kits to choose from, if we have 1 good one for a decent price. we have axles already. we have access to 2 very strong trannies for ecos but no one has used em yet. soooo? you tell me whats so bad? dont tell me its the engines.. HA. there we have it better then almost anyone..

the J is still a great platform and can be made fast for cheap, you just gotta use your head and not your wallet first.

If I were too ever actually try too sell my car, it would be because FWD and fast just don't really mix. It's extremely hard too control a higher HP FWD car, I don't care who makes. If I were too get another car I wanted too modify for power, it would definately be RWD.

i think everyone at one point in time wants to give up and often ?'s why modify a j body.

I dunno, i have ?'d alot on why i do this when i have car issues, but once u get it fixed up and step back and look at what u have done and where u have came from (in the automotive knowledge stand point) u feel a sense of pride.

like i said guys, im not bashing our awesoem j's... but you can pick up a used LS1 for about 10,000 and put about 4,000 in it and be running low 10's on pump gas. but yes gas mileage goes down, insurance goes up, and so does the car payment. but honestly, i am reminded of a very true performance quote....."how fast you wanna go, depends on how much money you want to spend".. you can argue that but you all know that its not cheap to be fast. one thing about camaro's, trans am's, mustang's or what it be, you can upgrade horsepower and tourque quite a bit without worrying about tranny's and drivetrain.... but dont get me wrong i love j-bodies and i am a proud owner of a boosted j..... just tired of getting beat by piece of sh** honda's and dsm's that put a whopping 1,500 dollars into their car......we all know if it was as cheap for us to build our j's as it is for them to build rice burners we would be right with all of them. anyway, i am curious now that i do have an engine that will hold great amounts of boost, what kinda price am i looking at for a turbo setup to run about 10 to 15 lbs... i dont wanna go too wicked cause i dont feel like buying upgraded axles or a tranny.... any help would be appreciated guys.

Ok, so maybe 17k is extremely over-exagerated. I'm just saying you would have A LOT of money left to do whatever you want. My set-up should be good for easy 12s and I only spent around $3k for all of it and it to be semi-reliable. I do all my own body work, motor work, welding, painting, repair work and diagnostics.
This is nowhere near a money pit for me. Like I had said before. I would MUCH rather be able to hold off on buying a part for my car if a financial chrisis came up and I didn't have money. I HATE owing money. You will never see me making payments on a car.

But yah, LESS THAN $10k into a J-motor would get you RELIABLE 11s out of a daily driver if you spent your money well. You could hit 11s with WAY less money than that, but I am talking FULL interior and no weight reduction, A/C and not having to fix it every weekend.

PS: RWD J would be awesome (please don't surface the yellow 454 cav pictures )

nother reason why i have a boosted cav that looks stock is that there are alot of mustangs and other v 8 cars around that dont look twice at my car . I just like the feeling of being not like anything out there in my area. I think as long as u know your Hp limits and what your car is cabable of u will be fine.

boosted j body's are few and far between. 95% of the j bodies you will see are just kids with fart cans and neon lights. But when people come across a boosted j body it is hard to forget.

yea they really do click their heals and they are low 12's lol. Basic turbo kit with everything is about 2 grand pieced, ecu tune is 500 bucks. walla. Stock trans are replaceable and stronger then the J's and axles last alot long due to weight. and i am sorry but a swapped turbo hatch will kill a J on equal boost. Just the facts. My Cav on 9 pounds god SLAUGHTERED by my buddies GSR turbo hatch on 8 pounds. I was ahead for for a whooping 4 seconds before he spun right by me. They are just better made and flowing engines. Hell, this forum went nuts when that dude with the silver cav went 12.9 at 106 on stock internals and a t3 super 60 on 9 psi (i think), hell thats a great number, but compared to many oponents the cav is up against in 4 banger land, it still not even close to being that great.

But to be honest this isn't even about honda, Its just the fact that I am such a Minardi(sp?) when it comes to modifying J's. Its my biggest problem. I don't have anyone to compare my car 2 or talk about set ups and different options. Its me, me and me
around here and it gets REALLY old.

p.s 10k in a cav running 11's? maybe but i think thats cutting it close. Anyone with full stand alone and numerous hours wanna testify for this? i got the built engine but no where near the management i should have.
