Manifold/Wastegate?

I have a choice between a manifold with and without the wastegate pre-cut. I plan on running 7-8psi on a 2.4. does it matter in my case or no. Also I would have to buy the wastegate for that particular manifold.

well that completely depends of whether or not your turbo is internally wastegated. if it's not then get an external. if it is internal then don't worry about an external set up.
if you haven't purchased a turbo yet.. it's 100% up to you.
I'm running a 2200 with 8 psi internally wastegated. the option was there for me to go external. but when I realized that external will run me about $300 - $500 more I said forget it.
also realize turbos and boost are usually controlled by the wastegate. so make sure whatever route you decide to go.... it's adjustable !!!

Have fun!!!!

Take a look at the turbo unit you are setting yourself up with. If you are building your own kit, then look for a T3 that is not internally wastegated (most T3 turbos larger than the T3 Super 60 are externally wastegated) and a good wastegate to use in your case is a Tial 38mm external. Most log style manifolds that you will find do not have the external wastegate flange built in. I know Exploited Racing sells them... but if you want it before Christmas next year then I'd stay away from Exploited.

I dont think an internal wastegate would have fit on my car. I added an external wasegate to one of the maniflods that are on e-bay all the time. If you do go with an external wastegate try to find a turbo with a 3 hole outlet instead of 5. Trying to make a downpipe fit on the 5 bolt block off flange is a pain.

the t3 turbo i'll be running was internally wastegated, but i took it off and i'll be adding a flange to the manifold for a 38mm external WG and run the dump pipe into the downpipe. i dont see how using the 5 bolt flange is a pain for a downpipe, it should fit just fine. the one i have has a 3" ID hole for the pipe. just stick in the 3" 90° pipe from the downpipe, weld it to the flange, and connect the downpipe to the rest of the exhaust.

most of your standard T3 turbos and just about all of the turbo manifolds for J bodies use the standard 4-bolt T3 flange.

We were talking about the downpipe flange not the exhuast inlet flange. The 5 Bolt fits but the bolts are a paint to get to, just seemed like it would have been easier if it was a 3 bolt.

this is true. have an exhaust shop fab you up a downpipe and have them weld a flange onto it with the bolt pattern you need.
