stalling with hahn kit, help needed
Tuesday, July 12, 2005 4:43 PM
Ever since i installed my hahn kit about 2 weeks ago, the car has had a constant problem with stalling. Once it stalled at idle, and all the other times have been under boost, stepping hard on the gas. I don't hear any knocking, car just flat out dies. No CEL, maybe a little chugging before stall. After waiting anywhere between 20 mins and 2 days, the car will start again. Has anyone had this problem?? (It cranks, but won't start.)

Id say its a fuel issue. What size injectors do you have? How much boost are you running? Check ur fuel filter also and make sure ur FMU, FP, and FPR are working ok..

what does hahn say about it?

its 8pm so ill call them tomorrow... yeah ill check the filter and all that... but would that cause it to stall completely randomly? it seems to drive fine at low rpms and under boost, then suddenly, for no apparent reason, it stalls. Sometimes just pulling out of the garage, and sometimes after 2 hours of driving.

Yes, It would do that. Filter is dirty and sometimes enough fuel gets thru and sometimes not enough.

whats the best way to check fuel filter? i replaced it when i did my hahn install, and it doenst look like you can open it up.

the best way would be to change it..even though you changed the filter when you performed the install. Theres a chance when you filled up your tank that you got the bottom of the barrel at the station(bad gas). Either way I'm not too sure its the filter nor the fmu. if the fmu some how went bad there'd still be fuel in the line after the unit meaning that the car wouldn''t stall on the spot, it would chug. I'd aim more towards the injectors or plugs

my guess is ignition issue of some kind are you getting spark?

well its somewhat fixed... ill just keep driving and hope it doesnt stall.. and when it does, ill make sure i have the tools to check everything out. i BELIEVE it was loose injector wires. i have them all soldered and crimped up good now. ill post again here if i start having the problem again.

Mine "chugged" when I first got the fuel mods installed. Any chance you are running WAY rich?

i assume over-richness could be a possibility. since i dont have a wideband installed yet (i need to go to an exhaust shop to get the bung welded in, i suck at welding), I really don't know. Hahn's fuel pressure tuning method just isnt too effective... its really hard to be flooring it and watching the road, fuel pressure, and boost gauge at the same time.

Have some stand so they can see the exhaust and in neutral give it some quick high RPM revs and see how much black smoke comes out the tailpipe.

The only time a car will cut out that fast and that randomly is the ignition.

I had that problem myself. Took me a while to diagnose... alongside a douchebag mechanic.

For me it was an MSD wire cuz I'm an idiot with a crimping tool.

You would smell it if it was running rich...

i say reboot the car! oh wait i thought i was microsoft for a min
Well my first question is...does it happen when it is cold or not and when you say stall are you coming off a hard run and coming to a stop and it wont idle OR you start it in the morning and after open loop it does not idle..?

it could be fuel pump...i have had i dont know how many cars come in that are driveable when it is cold and as soon as it gets warm or hot it dies and wont start because the fuel pump was going bad!

now checking for spark is easy pull a plug and turn it if you are getting spark then it is not ignition no spark ignition!

check spark, timing, and fuel if you got all 3 then it should run?

but like i said no fuel check fuel system
no spark check ignition
if you got both spark and fuel check timing!

I had the same thing happen only it was a ground wire that had worked its way loose, I was checking the MSD, coils, wires. It would sometimes be a hard start when cold (engine) and it only stalled on me twice but it was aggravating, since it was rush hour when it did it. it's all related, the spark would be off if the battery was not grounded, good luck man, glad to hear its running again.

check your O2 sensor... I know this may not be the same, but right after i got my 04 it started doing the same thing, just stalling at random times. I took it to the dealership and they said the O2 sensor was bad and causing it to run lean. just thinking out loud...
