If you could build your *DREAM* motor...how?
Thursday, June 30, 2005 8:23 PM
I'm picturing a 2.3HO (same as W41 with less wild cams)

9.5:1 Wiseco's
Eagle H beams
Lightened and balanced crank
bored block .020 over
MLS head gasket
086 head, ported on the exhaust side, polished up, 5 angle job
Stainless valves
(not sure what's involved, but make the drivetrain suitable for 8k rpms)

Then its time for boost...

something along the lines of .70 trim
intercooled
tuned for 20-25 psi

I don't care if you got a stock bodied J, or something set up like karo's car...that's going to go insanely fast

The only thing that I could think of that might top it...involves a boosted 3.8 lol

ok well if it is for a j all i can say is the upgrades you all are gonna list but it would def. have to be a root supercharger..........not if it didn't have to be a j then my car would be n/a.....nothing like raw unassisted power...

I would probably just pay Karo to build it and install it. He seems to know what he is doing.

I dont have a dream engine, but if I had a choice, I'd make my lil OHV as boost hungry as possible. Make the best with what you've got.

I believe im on my way to that, but I couldn't possibly list everything I want to do.

Todd Miller built Karo's motor

I'd trade in the built LD9 for a built Ecotec, no offense but the Ecotec is so technologically advanced compared to the LD9.

It would be similar comparing an LS2 to the LT1.

You can do all you want to the LD9 but if the guy in the next lane has equally built his Ecotec along with that LD9, my money is on the Ecotec.

Why did you have to say that? Here we go again. Onto round 32 and the ecotecs come out swingin!!!

z24 aint afraid of no ecotec

GM V-6 with a built motor, dry sump oil, cam, badass headwork, bigass rockers, Motec M4 ecu, 10 gallon fuel cell, Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump, and a big ol' turbo.....all in my Sunfire.
Screw building a 4 cyl..

275hp & 306tq - 1999 2.2 ohv
13.2 @ 108 mph
-1996 2.4 liter + Turbo + Built motor + Torco + More boost = Lots o' Power
-2000 Mustang GT + 2004 Cobra motor, Whipple 2.3 supercharger,
built rear-end,Dodge Viper spec T56 6 speed, bolt-ons = wheelies at the track!!!!!

I would go with this set-up but high compression, with standalone and dyno tuning it would be evil!!

Thats what I'm saying.
The thing that gets me is no one ever put the time into the LD9 as GM did the Ecotec. If GM had did with the LD9 as they did with the ecotec I''m sure the same can be done.

To me it seems that just now people are really starting to really tweak the LD9's and we will see a lot more out of them. It is all in tuning and set-up. We have seen soem stock LD9's go 12's with a turbo set-up, as well as some stock ecotec's, truley no one has the edge yet. That is my 2 pennies

Why not go all out and upgrade to a large rat. They move pretty fast.

I'd like to get the Mantapart 2.5 S/C for my car. Maybe in the future if they would talk to me.

Hmmm........dream motor

Stroked LD9 with no balance shafts
HPC coated 9:1 pistons
HPC coated rod and main bearings
Eagle Rods
ARP bolts and studs
2.3 flywheel
Cometic MLS HG
HO Cams
JMTS cylinder head
Then throw a turbo kit and engine management on it

I think a turbo LGO might have somethin nasty for those ub3r eco guys. Yes, IMO the eco motor is stronger out of the box....is it worth debating over? not really. Technically...LD9 still holds record for hp, no one has topped 410whp set by mike karas. In all honesty, it would be tough for the LGO to top that, and IMO that's a stronger motor then the LD9. But now we're just talkin opinions, so it don't really matter. All 3 4cyl motors for the J can be powerhouses. Like I said, the only thing that really could top it, is what adler said. A boosted V6 perhaps

a month ago it would have been what i was close to having..

Built 2.3 HO
-forged crank, rods, pistons
-ported 086 head
-top end work for high RPMs
-NVG-T550 + torsen
-custom tuned stock ECU

then boosted to high ^$%#

i too like the LGO over the LD9. way more HP stock, less BS to deal with (oil system, cam sensor, balance shafts) and the same bellhousing. im sold. now i think if get another J sooner or later i will swap in a 2.0 eco since its basically a decent build from the factory.

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..

The Ho will start to have problem at 8k so you better build it for 9500rpm

As for the crank, Gmpartsdirect still have some kellog crank for the 2.3.

I'll be using 2.4 rods in my 2.3 so my C/R will go down to 7.56:1. I have a T3/T04E with .48 turbine and .70 compressor so I can push alot of air.

So I'll have a reliable engine but weak axle. I hope to see some # by the end of the summer.
