After beating on the car at the JCO bash last weekend and not doin so well on the track, I was wondering why my A/F gauge was only reading at half at WOT.... thinking maybe it was the heat of the day (It was HELLISH HOT out there), I kept running.
On my last run of the day I came out of first and it was like hitting a wall. I thought it was the clutch or the catalytic... but no. The car was running tremendously lean at WOT...
It took a few days to realize was in fact my BRAND NEW blazer fuel pump. The thing had less than 3000 miles on it... and it had failed.
Yes... imagine my shock to see my car idling at 20 psi of fuel pressure instead of 30.... and making no extra fuel pressure with the signal line uncapped....
So.. today we put in ANOTHER new blazer pump.... and the car runs mean as all hell again. MUCH better than last weekend.... I guess the car was running out of fuel in the top end or something... not that it showed heavily on the A/F gauge but now the car pegs full rich on my modified gauge, so I KNOW it's much improved.
Word to the wise: even new parts fail. I personally got lucky and this motor didn't let go on me, but somebody won't be so lucky. Never forget to check the obvious things - it took me 3 DAYS to realize my car was running the way it was because of the fuel pump. I had been making boost that WHOLE time and adding no extra fuel. Imagine the sh!t in my pants when I realized that.
Take care.

well werent u running about 14psi of boost? so what ever ratio that is with your FMU that stock from another car fuel pump probably couldnt keep up. hope it dont go out again.
