We, i'm proud to say that after 8 months of work and thousands of dollars the fully built 2.4L is finally done and in the breakin period. After the devistating explosion that the previous motor went thru (snapped a stock rod) i hope for a different fate for this motor. To my knowledge nobody has EVER built a 2.4L as muchs as we did. That fact alone kinda scares me. Breaking new ground here.... But when we get it all tuned and running good it should be capable of close to 500 WHP... With help from mike karas and a few other guys before me i think we did all we could. Now i just have to keep from blowing it up (knock on wood).
To date i beleive it is the first show cavalier with a fully built motor. Should make the car fun to drive (i have not driven it in many months).

there is other built 2.4's out there also
so to the point , this thread is useless with out pics , LOL
good job on the break in and hope to see some nice times from you

I am curious to know if my assumption that mike karas's 2.4 that put down like 420 WHP is still the highest WHP achieved on the dyno for a 2.4L

Based on what the engine builder says... on 5 PSI it is probably putting down close to 300 HP... All i know is the new motor doesn't have a hard time breathing... The custom billet race cams have so much lift it lopes like a built V8.... So i'm sure 5 PSI is creating a @!#$ ton of CFM....

I believe Johnny Mack had a pretty good built engins but cant remember what it was pulling on the dyno. I'm sure it was well over 300hp but I would be curious to see what his final results were.
Good luck, until you get soem numbers that will be the key.

I was just going to mention you and your motor, Skilz. Yours is pretty beefy if I must say so..

Skilz what cams are you using. he has listed special billet cams. He states a big lope which might not be a goos thing depending on his specs on these cams he is running.

I am using 2.3 HO cams modified by Miller Performance, my engine also sounds very lopey. I have no dyno numbers yet either but my motor flows enough air that i couldn't build over 6psi on a T3 Super 60 about 5000rpm.

Got to love a auto with cams, they sound soo lopey. the Reaper was the same way with Mantapart sport cams.
I see the cams being the main difference between yours and his, but at the same time you have swap to a 2.3 oiling system etc.. Unless he is not telling all.

I also have the oil pump conversion. The cams are custom from Elgin Camshafts. Not a regrind but complete custom. The head is completely ported/polished/flow tested. Fully balanced/blueprinted.
Just drove it for the first time on 2 PSI of boost and it pulls as hard as it did last year on 5-7 PSI.... Actually working on it right now cause we blew an o-ring in the fuel rail cause the fuel pressure was too high. Should have it fixed in a few minutes....

i'm not saying i have more money, that has nothing to do with it... I very well could be wrong... others may have done what i have... but i don't know any... feel free to correct me if i am wrong... This is not an ego thing... wanting to share information here....The custom cams that were made to my specs had to include machining the cam towers down and getting custom valves to make up for it. As well as custom over sized lfters. These cams were very well researched with everything in mind from rpm all the way too boost!

I was under the ( possibly mistaken) asumption that no one has every had a custom set of cams made. And were not talking about a regrind out of 2.3 cams. They couldnt regrind or weld up to re-grind enough to get the lift that we needed/wanted. As well as all the work that had to be done to get the cams to work and everything to the right specs.
