please help.. what kind of fmu should I get?
Monday, June 13, 2005 10:34 AM
ok if you seen my dyno results I know that I need a fmu really bad.. I would like to know most of your setups and how you did it and your opinion on what I should do,. any way I did a dyno and I'm running way way lean to be exat 16:1 and 18:1 when I should be in the 12:1 ratio. I've been looking on what kind of fmu to get and they actually very from ratio's. what type/kind should I get?? I don't really want to run the car until I get one due to early detonatin. and if I get a fmu do I really need to get a fuel pump? right now I'm running on 3psi which added crap to the wheels until I get this fmu. all I want to see is about 7psi maybe 8 at most. thanks in advance.

Vortec 12:1 FMU is good. Don't forget to buy a SAFC-2 to help you tune it.

You'll be able to run 8 psi no problem.

DO NOT BUY A 12:1 FMU.

Thats way to freaking big. Buy an adjustable FMU so you can adjust the ratio to what the car needs, instead of making disc guesses and clipping injectors trying to run too much fuel pressure, or flooding it out and wondering why its so rich.

Not to sound stupid but summet doesn't look like they have a adjustable fmu.. where do you pick one up at?.. and when I get this adjustable fmu do I need a fuel pump or should I be fine with what I have, remember all I want to run is about 7-8 psi

Vortech has one, and Cartech has the Begi 2025. The stock fuel pump is only good to about 70-75psi for short periods of time. A replacement Walbro 255 is only like $100. I really can't say what you need if I don't have more information, like what hp you expect to be making.

I got mine through HAHN along with some other fuel stuff. I recommend just using yahoo or google to find the best price. Seems like about $190 is the cheapest but i don't remember where.

12:1 is too big? I'm going to run about 10psi with a walbro 255 fuel pump upgrade. Any other suggestions, or am I in the right ballpark? I have a ecotec.

40 WOT base pressure + 10 psi * 12:1 = 160 PSI of fuel pressure. The pump obviously can't support that, but its way too much.

Oh yeah, I was told that I can adjust the 12:1 FMU. I guess I'll find out.

yeah, a 6:1 should be enough for 10 psi of boost with the walbro, but don't forget to upgrade the injectors too, they do a good job on supplying enough fuel so you get the max power from the turbo.
