Water injection kit is on its way :)
Friday, June 10, 2005 10:50 AM
After a good while of researching(clubgp, srtforums, yahoo searchs,waterinjection.net i think/not sure) i am going with the coolingmist.com water injection kit. And i sold my rims on my car( back to stock-more sleeperish ).

here is the kit i bought :
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=42604&item=7978204269&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

here is why i bought it.
that dave guy who runs that place is super nice and helpful. His stuff was the best price i found. I tried to peice together a kit from a list on clubGP.com and it would have came up to $150+ depending on what u got. So all that trouble(ordering through 3-4 places, trips to the hardware store) wasnt worth it to me. He offers a warrenty with his stuff and offers more info /help if i have a problem then if i tried to cobble together a kit.

I think my car is pulling lots of timing(no gm s/c reflash ) adding this kit i think will yeild lots of gains. Soon here i will get my buddys auto x ray so i can see what the sensors(timing/knock/IAT) are doing b4 and after the water injection.
I heard good reviews too from a friend(luke/lash) whos GTP buddy did a kit like this and his knock count went from 7 down to 0. He was injection -20 windshield washer fluid.

I got the 1-4 psi boost switch. I am running 4-5 psi outta the gm s/c as i still have the stock pulley. So basically the water injection will spray starting at 4 psi.

i will keep you guys updated along the way with this water injection stuff. i see someone else, that guy wtih the sunfire / polished blower has this kit too, maybe he can chime in. i forget his name all the time. sorry.

later
jake

I got the 150psi methanol kit (no tank included) and have it T'ed into my washer tank. Mounted the pump under the front trans. mount...

Here's where I mounted the 1-4psi switch...

Mounted the hose and nozzle to the tube in front of the TB...

Here's the solenoid switch and hose...

Still have about 75mi. to put on the clutch before it's "Officially" broke in... Then it'll be off to the dyno for some testing...

Good luck and keep us updated.

Depends on where you put the nozzle... Basic tools , a little drilling , a little wiring...

this seems a bit too easy, the purpose is for simply cooling intake temp right? if so this looks like something i might want

cooling the intake charge, reducing knock and detonation, pulling less timing - = power.

thanks for the pict's john. keep us updated also . looks like a sweet set up for sure.

john- what fluid are u going to run? windshield washer fluid? or alcohol? or some crazy mix of stuff.

question, is this kit always on? always spraying water? if so how many times would u have to fill it up? just curious.

I'll be running washer fluid (water/methanol) for now.

The kit has a micro switch that is controlled by boost. It's adjustable from 1-4psi or they make a 4-15psi also... And they have a kit for N/A cars also...

kit comes with a boost switch. a 1-4 psi switch, or a 4-15 psi one or a 15-25psi one(i think). i think he has now a 1-25psi switch availiable.

basically it hits lets say 4psi with the 1-4 psi switch and it sprays, drops below 4psi and it shuts off. My kit has a check vavle so it wont suck stuff in under non boost contions.

how long until you have to fill it up? not sure. depends how much u get on it .

also john? do u have the angled injector upgrade?

Friends this kit looks excelent and efficient.

But if anyone want to take it a step further, we can add some kind of pump controller that can be managed by engine signals like rpm, map, iat, knock sensor and others making this kit powerful and smarter.

That means in the way the rpms, boost, temps, detonation or whatever signal is increasing or decreasing, the controller is capable of adjust system pressure compensating detonation and high temp of intake air. Or in other words: more heat more water and less heat less water, simple. Is like some kind of fuel map, but with water .

I think that this can be done with some standalone and piggyback ecus, like Mr. Pute's system, but I saw some other like the old Edelbrock Varajection and SnowPerformance variable controller .

Snowperformace could be a little expensive compared to Ebay Water injection kits but cheap compared with Aquamist system. Also his web site and forums has good info.

I only want to share some info.

Regards,

Along with reducing detonation its really good for lowering egt's and letting you run @!#$ty gas and still make more power. They had a kit on a 5.0 that had a very modified motor with a blower on it. They went from making 450rwhp on 93 octane gas to 493rwhp on 87 octane gas. Definately a smart buy if your running extreme boost and even low boost.

they have a progressive controller out there on e bay, but that is beyond what i ever would need.

Jake are you getting the 100psi pump or the 150psi pump.....I was just thinking about it whether or not the 100psi would be good enough or if the 150 would be better for out applications......

so say i got the 100psi kit what is the best substance to pump into the engine?

I'm still a bit new to the concept but doesnt water put out fires? I could see maybe alcohol because it is flammable. Is there any adjustments id need to make to the car or can you just slap this thing on?

ALso with those boost switches is that for making the spray come on at a certain boost , like when i hit 1psi it trips on, or its only spraying at 1-4psi?

the water is a mist, and its used to absorb heat...... when the water evaporates in the combustion chamber.

Just one thing, I'm pretty sure the S/C reflash pulls more timing then your non-flashed program...... but a data log will show for sure.

either way, nice purchase.

I have been talking to my dad and his buddys who use these Alcohol injection kits on their Turbocharged Grand Nationals and GNX's and they said it works better then a Intercooler.. Because you don't get any pressure loss due to tubing and if your using a straight alcohol solution (with the very very little amount off this special oil to keep the seals lubed) it cools more then any intercooler will.

Jake - which kit are you using? is it Alky control or SMC?

the kit is the coolingmist.com kit.

rodimus- the 1-4 psi switch means if i set it at 1 psi it starts to spray, or if i set it at 3 psi it will start to spray. it all depends what i set it at.

i am getting the 100 psi pump.
