Turbo Lock's itself
Tuesday, May 24, 2005 9:46 AM

I installed my turbo and starts to spin well but after 5000 rpms the nut on the shaft starts to auto torque itself until it stops spinning.

What it's wrong.? The nut it's left threaded after torque it the turbo spins well but after a while it stops an the nut blocks everything.

I will post some pics later.

Tnks.

It sounds like you should get a new thrust collar and thrust bearing to me. If the thrust bearing is allowed to sink down to a certain point, the compressor wheel will contact the backing plate and that could sieze the turbo. The only thing that would wear down those two pieces like that would be either LOTS of use or being oil starved (ie: too much friction) It should never be able to get so tight that it stops spinning if all of the internal parts are working properly. You are going to need to tear it down. I ahve a write up on page two of my cardomain site. You will see the thrust bearing and thrust collar I am talking about. The thrust bearing is what the compressor wheel is riding on. E-mail me if you need any help.
