driving on boost untuned

the place that was going to tune my car cannot for about 2 weeks. now my problem is getting the car to the place. there is a place about 15 minutes away that involves highway driving. if i drive and keep it underboost will i be able to make it to the place on the highway and wat not? or minimum boost? i have injectors but i dont want to drive my car on the 330cc untuned. what should i do? i have the SAFC-2 but im gettin it professionaly done on a dyno..

maybe theyll fine tune it for you, but i dont see why you couldnt at least do some rough tuning on your own. until then, dont run on too high boost and make sure you dont go lean. just my idea anyway

what if you disconnected the charge pipe to the throttle body? and babied it to where you have to go?

Well, you have a few options.

1 - rough tune it yourself. This really isn't hard, I've been driving for 6 days now on a rough tune and the car is pretty much fine... granted I have a small semblance of what I'm doing but really it's not that hard to run the calculations and tune your fuel rougly.

2 - create a boost leak: basically disconnect one of your easier to get to charge pipes, or loosen the connection...

3 - If you're internally wastegated with an adjustable wastgate actuator arm, adjust the arm so it holds the flapper open all the way.

4 - Baby the car there. If you stay under 2500 rpm and stay under 1/2 throttle, you will not be making much if any boost.

Those are your options man.

Have fun.

yeah its pretty easy to stay out of boost....just dont gun it and dont climb high in the gears RPMs (assuming its a manual)....

For my car which i know its not the same as yours ..but if i drive it normal i wont hit boost. so its really easy to stay out of it...freeway its simple too dont worry about it..as long as you have a boost guage to see where your at =) Once you start dong 70 MPH in 5th and just cruising you wont be in boost..but its real touchy when your going that fast ..you blip the gas and can find youself in boost real fast =) once you hit 70 and stay at 70 your most likly around -10 vac somewhere around there....

you guys are saying you make a rough tune, do you guys have widebands? b/c i don't see how you could tune at all with out one.

yea i have a wideband for rough tuning but just getting it connected will be my hard part im new at all that crap. but ill prolly do wat chris said ill just stay out of boost thats my really only option and maybe get a leak going...thanx chris and everyone else

DO NOT create a boost leak.
Specifically, do not just disconnect a hose.

Without backpressure, the turbo will overspin and the waste gate will never open.

Anything that will hold the wastegate open all the time will be your friend.
If you have a wastegate that can be connected to manifold VACUUM and open (top fitting on most external WGs. Rod side on most internal WGs), then connect that to the manifold with a check valve inline that flows in the direction to the manifold. That will keep the wastegate open any time the engine is running.

protomec- that sounds really really confusing..can i just stay underboost? lol or atleast minimum boost on the highway and be fine on the stock injectors just till i get to the garage its like 15 miles max no even...actually my dad said we can do it without high way so i can stay way underboost will i be fine that way? and i will watch all my gauges with my life

yeah you will stay under boost if you don't go over like 50% throttle, its easy to say out of boost. i only hit boost when i want to.

Yes you should be fine that way.
My scenario was more along the lines of "its my daily driver and I have to drive it alot till I can get it tuned". What I explained was a way to insure you get no boost whatsoever, even by accident.

yeah if you are running stock injectors, yeah just stay underboost, it will run perfectly.

oh i see what you mean by it's your daily driver. if i wasnt getting it tuned that day id do wat you said then. thanx everyone. also another thing is the SAFC-2 real hard to hook up? i have the PCM guide from NY-jbody so it shouldnt be that hard i hope. is it just splicing into wires that connect into the PCM?
