Sweetness: Turbocharged

Well, I've had her breathing boost for about 5-6 days, I thought I'd let everybody know that I finally got to see boost after 2 years of planning.

The turbo is a T3/04e .70 ar compressor with a 54 trim wheel and a .60 ar turbine with a stage 2 wheel.

Now, many people said my turbo was TOO big for my application, and it wouldn't spool until decently late in the RPM range, like start spooling at 3500 and full boost at 4500 or so.

But - Sweetness proved them all wrong. The stage 5 race ported/polished head pushes that turbo so it begins to see boost at 2000 rpm with a fully 8lbs at about 2800 rpm.

Yes, that's right. Even I was shocked.

I found that running the single wire 02 sensor our car comes with SUCKED at startup, it was very rough and really, the car hated it. Yesterday I installed a 4 wire sensor out of a 3800 and all of my cold start issues went away.

I'm only left with a misfire at high rpm's... which I can't figure out since i put in NGK TR6's and I have an MSD box. Anybody with suggestions would be appreciated.

As for pictures, I'll be posting them up in the photos forum after a show next saturday. I went with 2.5" charge pipes since my turbo has a 2.5" outlet and I got a JRC intercooler with 2.5" inlet/outlet.... the exhaust is also 2.5" front to back.

So far she is running fairly strong, and I have the usual issues that most people have to deal with when boosting an N/A engine. Little kinks here and there... but it's all part of the process.

Anybody with questions about my setup are welcome to ask, and before anybody asks:

- The battery is in the stock position
- The AC compressor and condensor can are in their stock positions
- Yes I still have cruise control
- Yes, every stock function of my car is still in place.

That's it for now.

since you have an msd might want to try playing around with the timing on those higher rpms you might be able to set the retard that might help

Are u hitting the rev limiter when it mis-fires? What rpm range is it misfiring at? My guess is too if you're not hitting the limiter, which im sure you're not, then ur timing is off a lil bit.

Chris, its those plugs. They are soaked with fuek from driving to my place with no 02!!! We will get em cleaned or replaced tomorrow and see what happens.

PS-I have pics, but I am keeping them for myself

The turbo is from www.blaastperformance.com.

I have 2 degrees retard setup on the MSD box right now... it did the misfire thing with 0 degrees retard. Do you suggest I retard a bit more?

And yes the plugs are fouled out, but even when they weren't they still misfired at high RPM's...

Thanks for the compliments, pictures are coming soon enough. I'm just trying to get her setup to my satisfaction before I release decent pictures.

it doesnt hurt anything to change the plugs chris and for what it takes its worth a shot. im getting pretty close to completeing my own little setup and i may need to come up and visit you and get my own ride in your car since its being whored upon by everyone but me so far, lol.

also if you guys are looking for turbos you can always visit www.cherryturbos.com
i baught mine from him.

after doing the plugs you can kick the timing back and bit and see if theres still knocking

As always... the test of your car shall be at the JCO Bash. Can't wait to see it run, bro!!

I won't have a clutch by then, at all. Sadly.

I'll see what I can do about getting it running smoothly / right.

As far as projecting times and power.... we'll see. I'm gonna try to get the boost up to 10 lbs by the bash.

Kevin,

Judging from my little bit of fun with Bill last night on the highway, I'll have no problems passing you even with my current problems.

Don't you worry.

Yeah, I've got the GM blower on an otherwise mostly stock powertrain.

I fully expect Chris to kill me at the track... but every year at the JCO Bash something seems to go wrong for him.

My compassionate side feels bad for him... I know fully well how much work he's put into that car... but my cruel and evil side likes to prod away at him until the next time.

Here's hoping this is the year...

Well I'm hoping to pull high 14's, but last year the cars with similar setups to what I now have were in the low 15's so who knows.

Are you consistantly running mid-14's like your sig says? You still spraying like there's no tomorrow?

Re: Sweetness: Turbocharged

a couple of weeks ago I put a new set of ngk tr6's in and I was misfiring at high rpms too. I took them out regapped them (.038) and the problem persisted. I got the car back on home and put the set I took out back in (same plugs with 3k on them) and the misfire stopped. I dunno if the plugs were bad out of the box or what when I took them out they looked fine.

I change my plugs every oil change just to be safe and this was the first time I had problems

I would get new plugs and see what happens

or try a different kind i just find it funny we have the same exact problem and are using the same plug
