Me and a friend were talking about running an ignition retard system when running boost. Do you think it would be possible to run low octane fuel when doing this.

I would never run any thing lower then 91 octane with boost... You start to get knock and if it gets bad enough.... good buy engine.... i would say if you want to try this, at the very lease get a knock gauge, here is the one i have and its for Pontiac sunfires... was very easy to install ..... Knock Gauge

I have tuned my 93 2.2 turbo on 87 octane almost exclusively. This summer I will probably spend some time tuning the high octane spark tables for 89 octane fuel.

This is a dang good device. http://www.jandssafeguard.com/ If I were adding an aftermarket knock controller, I'd try and interface this with the factory system.
