I am currently looking to make my own turbo kit. For you guys out there that have already done this how hard is it to make your own. Where did you get your downpipe made at? and did you do your own intercooler piping and charge pipes?
let me know when you do so. i'd like to make one too.
I made EVERYTHING! Welded up three mani's(log types), I went through about 5 different downpipes and wastegate dumps till I got the right look out of it, third time doing my intercooler piping, eliminated about 1.5" of unnecessary piping. I have all the tools to do this however.
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
thanks guys for your input.
i have another question, is making your own turbo kit cheaper than buying a complete kit from cavalierconnection?

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
alright cool thanks for all your help man. i will have more questions when i start buying my parts. thanks again.
For a basic turbo kit such as 5 to 6 psi, would i need injectors or a bigger fuel pump? and what electronics would i need such as turbo timer, safc etc....?

not necessary on the fuel mods, only if you want to. SAFC, yes. turbo timer is simply an timed ignition override to let the car idle for a minute after you pull the key out so the turbo can cool down and oil can make its way back to where it belongs. not necessary if you don't run it hard all the time or if you can just sit and idle for a minute before you shut the car off if you've run it hard.

the stock fuel system is not meant to support any boost at all so it is absolutely necessary to run some kind of fuel mods. some of the guys on here are using bigger injectors, and adjustable FMU and some have added to it an adjustable FPR and the SAFC. i'm not positive on how much power the stock fuel pump will hold up to but it wouldnt hurt to look into a higher flowing pump. and injector size depends on how much power you want to make, not how much boost you're running. do some searching to find out what other options there are for fuel management and do a lot of reading and researching before you actually go through with whatever you decide.

so what would u guys suggest for me to get, the injectors and fmu or something else...thanks for the information!!
you could PROBABLY get away with an adj. fmu and safc. (dont hold me to that though)
you'd rather have too much fuel that you can tune down a little bit than not enough fuel to start with. i would suggest at least injectors and an adjustable FMU like the one from cartech. with the FMU, you can get away with a little bit smaller injectors because they will flow as much fuel as bigger injectors when the fuel pressure rises. also the SAFC can fine tune your fuel curve based on rpms and throttle position as well as having the fmu for a boost based fuel curve. i'm not sure if you can lower the base fuel pressure for the bigger injectors with the cartech fmu. if not then also throw in the adjustable FPR for that.
^^as anyone can tell i've learned many things reading from the teachings of Shifted

thanks for the info. guys
would it be alright if i were just to go with a performacne fuel pump. Im only wanting 5 or 6 psi out of this kit......... thanks
at the power level you'll produce at 5 or 6 psi, the stock pump should flow plenty of fuel. although it never hurts to get a high flow pump. that way if you ever want to raise the boost (which you will) you already have the pump to support the power.

alright.....so i could go without using any fuel mods for the time being.
