Help Me Pick the right Turbo Size!!!
Tuesday, May 03, 2005 12:35 PM
Hey GUys I am searching for the right size turbo for a 2.4L engine. I know that a t3 will work but I want it to be able to work after I do the engine rebuild.
I need info like:
Turbo Types:
exhaust sizes:
Intake sizes:
Trims:

Example: T3/T4 .63/.50 with 57 trim

Any help would be great. thanks

^^pretty decent turbo right there for your goals

for more flow on the top end go with a .60 or .70 A/R on the compressor. and for a little quicker spool up go with a .48 A/R turbine.

T3-T04E
.48 turbine housing with a stage 3 wheel
Go with a 50 trim two cause i has a much broader compressor map and boost is almost instant

pretty much any turbo manufacturer can make it to your spec. Here is the one that i am putting on my car now except i will be running a .63 a/r turbine housing instead of a .48a/r. But if i don't like the .63 i have a .48 at home that i can swap

Don't buy a fixed rate FMU, 12:1 is way too high... think about it...

6 PSI, 55 PSI base fuel pressure at atmospheric... 6x12 = 72, 72+55 = 127 PSI... you'll max the pump or injectors out way before that, so you'll clip your injectors and run lean.

I calculated that I will need a 4:1 ratio on my FMU with the 30# injectors to be pretty decently rich until it gets on a dyno.

FMU = yuck. adjustable FPR / SAFC works great for boost. that T3/T04E with the .48 a/r and the stage 3 turbine will be a nice setup. you'll get moderately quick boost and it will flow well with your powerband. i have had experience with the guys at Precision Turbo and Limit Engineering, both of which are Garrett dealers. You have to be careful with some of the turbos you may pick up. The best way to go is pick a full Garrett. Sometimes they will only give you a Garrett compressor matched up with a @!#$ty exhaust housing / turbine. But a full Garrett T3/T04e will suit you nicely.

Its cool now guys. I am getting a adjustable Vortech FMU from PSIZ24. He was running 13's with that FMU and a MSD fuel pump. So I will be using the same. Oh and thanks spotabee I think that is what I am getting
